Love, Victor: Love, Simon spinoff moves from Disney+ to Hulu
Love, Victor gets its official name and a new home!
The highly anticipated Love, Simon spinoff won’t be heading to Disney+ anymore. Deadline reports the series, now dubbed Love, Victor, will air on Hulu instead. Disney has been moving their more “mature” originals to Hulu, like High Fidelity, which also originated on the flagship streaming service.
According to the report, Hulu is ecstatic to be getting the series. Coming from Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, the co-showrunners of This Is Us, the streaming service has already commissioned a writers room for a potential second season. This means if Love, Victor is renewed, then it won’t take as long to start production on season 2.
Michael Cimino plays the titular character of Victor, a new student at Creekwood High School (the same as the movie). The synopsis teases that Victor will have an assortment of things to work through, like his home life, his new school, and his burgeoning sexuality.
Since the series will deal with issues like alcohol use, sexuality, and some family discord, Disney felt like it would be a stronger fit on Hulu. There it joins Looking for Alaska, PEN15, and Freeform’s Grown-ish as young adult shows that handle both light-hearted and mature material.
The series is expected to debut sometime in June, in honor of Pride month, but it’s unclear if all ten episodes will drop at once.
