Rachel Naomi Hilson to costar in Love, Simon TV adaption

This is Us actress Rachel Hilson will appear in a series based on a popular romantic comedy.

Rachel Hilson (This is Us) has been tapped to be in the upcoming Disney+ series Love, Simon inspired by the 2018 film of the same name.

While series isn’t a continuation of the storyline of the film, it will take place in the same world and same high school.

Hilson will play Mia, friend to Victor (Michael Cimino) who is a new student. He faces a slew of new challenges, including home issues, a new school, and his own identity and understanding his sexual orientation. Mia has a quick wit and great sense of humor. Previously, the role was to be played by Johnny Sequoyah, but showrunners decided to take the role in a different direction.

You may remember Hilson from her role as young Beth Pearson on the episode “Our Little Island Girl” during season 3 of This is Us. She also had recurring roles on The Good Wife, In the Vault, and Rise.

Love, Simon is being brought to Disney+ by This is Us producers Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger, who also wrote the movie.

The film starred Nick Robinson as Simon Spier, a closeted gay teenager falls in love online. As his secret is threatened to be exposed to the entire school, he struggles with his own identity and finding a way to be his true self with his family and friends.

Love, Simon also starred Jennifer Gardner (Alias) and Josh Duhamel (Las Vegas) as Simon’s parents, and Katherine Langford (13 Reasons Why).
