AJ and the Queen won’t be back for another season.

Sadly, it’s one and done for Netflix’s series, AJ and the Queen. According to Deadline, the RuPaul Charles show won’t return for a season 2.  The series debuted in early January, and it appears like the viewership just wasn’t there.

The show follows a drag queen named Ruby Red, played by RuPaul Charles. She’s described as “bigger-than-life” but unfortunately fell on hard times. In her 90’s RV, Ruby Red is traveling across the country to different clubs with her companion, the orphan AJ. The young nine-year-old is a fast-talking stowaway who finds a family with Ruby Red. In the meantime, the two spread a message of love and inclusivity around the country and perform amazing musical numbers.

Along with RuPaul, the show also starred Izzy G, Michael-Leon Wooley, Josh Segarra, Katerina Tannenbaum, and Tia Carrere. RuPaul and 2 Broke Girls‘ Michael Patrick King created the series and they also served as executive producers in the first season.

There is no word if the show will be shopped around or if another network could be interested in saving the series. RuPaul confirmed the cancellation on Twitter and thanked the cast for their hard work. For now, it seems like the series is officially dead unless Netflix is willing to play ball with other streaming services getting the rights to the first season.
