On My Block continues the hunt to track down Lil’ Ricky–and they get pretty darn close, sort of.

On My Block is putting the group in quite a bit of danger with this whole Lil’ Ricky situation. It’s a jarring reminder of what these kids deal with daily. It’s as if each of them is expecting to deal with heavy stuff, but at the end of the day, they’re still just kids!

The search for Lil’ Ricky continues and Ruby takes Cuchillos’ recent threat pretty seriously. They need to step up their game. If they don’t –things are going to get messy. With the evidence and information they’ve gathered so far, Ruby narrows it down to four people.

To tackle and eliminate options quickly, the group splits up into three teams. Cesar and Monse track down one of the leads, but it ends up not being Lil’ Ricky. However, they’re going to try and give each other a new slate for their relationship. Perhaps this time, they can do it right — except for the fact that Oscar and Monse kissed.

However, it turns out that Oscar had already told Cesar about the kiss, and Cesar is chill with it. It didn’t mean anything, so he’s not angry. Monse feels differently about Cesar’s chill over the whole ordeal and gets mad at him for not taking more offense. I mean, I get it. Some reaction from him would have been nice.

Meanwhile, Ruby and Jasmine are off chasing down another lead. Along the way, it becomes clear that Ruby’s feelings for Jasmine have gotten stronger and more conflicted.

On My Block took a while trying to get to this point, but it doesn’t feel organic. I’ve always stanned Jasmine and Ruby but I don’t know, it just doesn’t feel as good as I thought it would.

Ruby and Jasmine believe they have found Lil’ Ricky, who they think is an exterminator. They create a scenario with dead rats to lure him over, but as it turns out, he is also definitely not Lil’ Ricky.

During this episode, Jamal realizes that he is too into Kendra, who treats their relationship like a project for school. She’s just studying what is happening, and Jamal has developed some real feelings for her. This realization is enough to motivate him to get back to the Lil’ Ricky investigation. After all, their lives depend on it.

The episode ends on a somber note as Monse finally decides to pick up a call from her mother. As it turns out, it wasn’t her mother calling this entire time. It was her husband trying to get a hold of Monse to tell her that her mother had passed away.

Sigh. And here we thought things couldn’t get worse.
