On My Block goes down a somber, bittersweet road as Monse bids farewell to her mother.

On My Block takes us deep into the psyche of Monse’s mind as she deals with the tragic loss of her mother. If you recall, she and her mother had been on bad terms for quite a long time. They hadn’t been able to reconcile their differences before her mother’s death, which is likely something that will stay with her for a long time to come.

But that might not entirely be the case. You see, Monse is having a difficult time accepting that she feels…nothing. She doesn’t feel overwhelmed with grief or sadness or even regrets. She’s more flustered over the lack of emotions.

Ruby hadn’t been out for days, but Jasmine forces him to come out to support his friend at the very least. Unfortunately, all the Cuchillos drama has Ruby feeling stressed, disheartened, and frightened. He isn’t exactly saying the most helpful things and sounds a bit too down for anyone’s comfort.

As for the On My Block Lil’ Ricky investigation, Jamal and Jasmine are still trying to compete for the position of team leader. But it looks like Jamal might be taking the lead after this episode.

However, I love Jasmine and how she has become such a big part of the group. She’s hilarious, and in my opinion, should be the team leader. I am just saying!

Apart from Monse’s mother’s funeral, this On My Block episode reminds us that when things get dark, they will always get more ominous. Cesar’s dad decides to leave without saying bye, but not before an emotional argument with Oscar.

Cesar doesn’t remember, but Oscar had to deal with their father leaving them before, and it’s taken a toll on him. And it’s also been the driving force behind Oscar’s doubts of living in this world.

The arc of this episode draws a strong parallel between multiple characters, especially Monse and Cesar. They’ve both lost their parents, and while Cesar’s dad didn’t pass away, there is still a sense of loss here that they are both experiencing.

Not to mention, Monse and Ruby share a connection here as well because of the number of things they’ve both been through. They’re becoming desensitized to the trauma, and it’s not exactly a good thing.
