2. When the Streetlights Go On

When the Streetlights Go On is a coming-of-age drama that takes place in a small midwestern suburb. During a sneak-out session, Chrissy Monroe (Kristine Froseth) and her teacher-turned-boyfriend, Mr. Carpenter (Mark Duplass) are abducted and killed by a masked man.

The Monroes’ neighbor, Charlie Chambers (Chosen Jacobs), stumbles upon the bodies. Now, Detective Grasso (Queen Latifah) is on the hunt to figure out who’s behind the murders.

When the Streetlights Go On is drenched in ’90s nostalgia, from Boyz II Men on the soundtrack to scenes of Bill Clinton on the TV. Personally, I love diving into series that are set in previous decades, especially ones that I’ve lived through.

1. Flipped

From Funny or Die comes Flipped, a scripted comedy series starring Kaitlin Olson and Will Forte. After watching a casting call, Jann and Cricket decide to take the bait and attempt to be the world’s next house-flipping TV couple. Unfortunately, things aren’t all remodeling and new lamps for the couple.

While in the midst of renovating a home, the duo finds a ton of cash — only that cash happens to belong to the Mexican cartel; something that they do not realize until the cash is spent and the cartel shows up to collect.

Impressed by the duo’s work on the one-time meth lab that they were renovating, the Mexican cartel decides to give them a job — to renovate the cartel’s mansions. Will the duo survive this ridiculous scenario?
