Westworld Season 4 is coming, just likely not anytime soon
By Mads Lennon
HBO has officially given Westworld Season 4 the green light. Unfortunately, it is unlikely that we’ll see the next season anytime soon. Find out why.
Earlier today, HBO sent out a press release announcing they were planning for Westworld Season 4 and had officially renewed the sci-fi series for a fourth season.
“From the western theme park to the technocratic metropolis of the near future, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed every twist and turn from the minds of master storytellers Jonathan Nolan and Lisa Joy. We can’t wait to see where their inspired vision takes us next,” said Casey Bloys, the president of HBO programming.
The series is currently airing its third, eight-episode season. The latest season has diverted from the actual theme park to a bustling metropolis with a much sleeker modernist edge rather than its previous Westernized theme.
While it is certainly exciting to see Westworld will continue for another season, it is unlikely that we’ll see the new season airing on our television sets in the near future.

For starters, Westworld typically takes more than the average year of turnaround time to finish the production. It is similar to Game of Thrones in some ways, in that it has a large budget, and the writers take a while to plan out the scripts.
It took over a year between Season 1 and 2 and then over a year between Season 2 and Season 3.
That means we likely won’t see Westworld Season 4 until at least 2022. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and current industry shutdowns, it could push the series back even farther.
Unfortunately, there is a chance we may not see new episodes of Westworld until 2023. Hopefully, that doesn’t wind up being the case, but I would anticipate having to wait until winter 2022 at a minimum.
The good news is, all three seasons are available to stream on HBO, so there is plenty of time to watch and rewatch the show between now and then. Many fans will likely come up with new and exciting theories in the downtime.
