From the minds of Jordan Peele and J.J. Abrams comes a new twisted horror series called Lovecraft Country. HBO has finally released the first teaser.

HBO‘s new drama series, Lovecraft Country, is based on the 2016 novel by Matt Ruff. It will officially debut this August.  After much anticipation, the premium cable channel has released the series trailer.

For those unfamiliar with the story, Lovecraft Country will focus on Atticus Freeman (Jonathan Majors), his friend Letitia (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), and his Uncle George (Courtney B. Vance). Hoping to find Atticus’ missing father (Michael Kenneth Williams), the trio will take a road trip across the 1950s Jim Crow America.

Not only will they have to contend with the horrific racist mindset of the time, but they will also be forced to confront terrifying monsters straight from one of H.P. Lovecraft’s most masterful works.

More from HBO

The series is being produced by J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele’s companies, Bad Robot and Monkey Paw, in association with Warner Bro. Television. Misha Green, a co-creator of Underground, also serves as an executive producer.

Lovecraft Country looks like it is going to tackle many issues stemming from racism in America, both in the past and how they inform the present.

The series gives us a taste of the series gorgeous production and it also provides a little peek at some of the monstrosities that the characters will face, both in human form and their more Eldritchian counterparts.

As Entertainment Weekly points out, Lovecraft Country is being released on the heels of HBO’s other popular new series from an acclaimed horror novelist with The Outsider.
