The Office showrunner Greg Daniels recently chatted about the series and the potential for a revival. Is it possible one could happen?

Former showrunner of The Office, Greg Daniels, recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about Dunder Mifflin and his new series, Space Force (which will reunite Daniels with Steve Carrell).

According to The Digital Spy, Daniels discussed the possibility of reviving The Office sometime in the near future. It seems now is the perfect time for old, popular, shows to make a comeback. Friends has a reunion planned for HBO Max, Parks and Recreation just aired a quarantine special, and even Happy Endings will get a reunion special soon.

But sadly for fans of the long-running NBC sitcom, it looks like the doors of Dunder Mifflin Paper Company will remain closed.

According to Daniels, the idea of getting the cast together again for a special has been tossed around multiple times over the years.

Considering the revival craze, that’s not surprising. Aside from the shows we mentioned above, many other shows have successfully returned, including other NBC sitcoms like Will & Grace.

But Daniels feels like it would be hard to revisit The Office because they didn’t leave any storylines unfinished, nothing was “left hanging.”

That said, it seems like there was potentially a glimmer of hope remaining by the end of the interview. Daniels acknowledged that he loved working on the series and would love to revisit it, but it sounds like the circumstances would need to be perfect.

When writing the series finale, he, the writers, and even the castmembers intentionally geared the show toward a finite ending, including a flash-forward at the end to give fans an update on all the characters in the future.

“However, he also acknowledged how fans are still crazy about the sitcom, so its future isn’t necessarily determined by previous storylines,” concluded The Digital Spy article.
