Black Mirror: Charlie Booker feels the world doesn’t need Season 6
By Mads Lennon
Black Mirror creator Charlie Booker isn’t convinced the world needs a sixth season of the disturbing, yet thrilling, tech-dystopian anthology.
Unfortunately for fans of Netflix’s uber-disturbing and frighteningly realistic tech-dystopian anthology series Black Mirror, it doesn’t appear like we’ll be getting a Season 6 any time soon, or potentially ever.
Black Mirror creator Charlie Booker recently chatted with Radio Times about his current slate of projects, and a sixth season of the series is not currently on his roster. According to Booker, he’s not sure if there is any need for Season 6 right now.
Given the current state of the world amid the coronavirus pandemic, a struggling economy, sky-high unemployment rates, and even murder hornets, it isn’t hard to see why Booker might feel that way.
Instead of coming up with new ways to metaphorically punch his audience in the gut with his twisted storytelling, Booker has been concentrating on more light-hearted comedic projects.
“At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those. I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh,” Booker told the outlet.
Unfortunately, he didn’t go into much detail on what he is working on at the moment or if it is something we might get to see soon.
That said, there are those of us who love horror no matter what. The world might be a mess, but I’ll still marathon Texas Chainsaw Massacre films. But there is something different and more philosophical about Black Mirror.

One can draw many disturbing parallels from the themes on the show, with some of the devices created in the Black Mirror-universe even coming eerily close to reality.
It’s not quite the same as watching a horror film with an unrealistic story as many of the scenes and moments from Black Mirror are disturbing because they feel so close to coming true.
For fans who are hankering for more, the first five seasons of the series are still available to stream on Netflix, along with the recent interactive special Bandersnatch.
Plus, there are similar shows out there. Amazon Prime’s Tales from the Loop might be a good distraction if you’re looking for something similar to Booker’s series, but not quite as grim.
