There is going to be a new Scarlet Knight in Batwoman season 2.

Arrowverse fans were shocked by the sudden departure of Batwoman lead, Ruby Rose. Following the show’s first season finale, Rose announced that she would not be returning to star in Batwoman season 2. Speculation began about who would step in to play the Scarlet Knight, with several stars throwing their hat in the ring.

Some wondered whether the showrunners would address the change in actor within the show. Apparently, the showrunners have instead chosen to go in a completely different direction with Gotham’s protector.

Kate Kane will be replaced in Batwoman season 2

As per a Decider report, Kate Kane will not be Batwoman in the show’s returning season. A leaked casting call referred to a character named Ryan Wilder and the showrunners are looking for an actor who is ‘female, Mid-late 20s, any ethnicity’.

Surprisingly, there is no mention that the actor should be part of the LGBTQIA+ community. The show producers had promised to continue representing the community in Batwoman season 2, and hopefully, they stick by that. Ryan Wilder is characterized as being the complete opposite of Kate.

"“She’s likable, messy, a little goofy and untamed. She’s also nothing like Kate Kane, the woman who wore the batsuit before her.”"

For all intents and purposes, it seems like Wilder is definitely stepping into the Bat-boots of Kate Kane. But, is it possible that this character is simply a guest star with delusions of grandeur? If not, we can’t help but wonder how the show will approach this new direction.

The first season of Batwoman centred around Kate Kane and her struggling relationships with the supporting characters. From fighting her twin sister who has become the Gotham villain Alice, living up to her cousin Bruce’s legacy, to mending her fractured relationships with her father Jacob, her ex-girlfriend Sophie and her stepsister Mary, to bonding with Luke Fox and Julia Pennyworth, the premiere season hinged on Kate’s personal life.

With a brand new character who seemingly has no connections to the rest of the cast, Batwoman season 2 will have to encourage viewers to like Ryan Wilder as well as build a solid foundation for her relationships with the established characters.

Batwoman season 2 may not be the same without Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane, but whatever decision the producers make, we remain optimistic that they will give fans an Arrowverse show that matches and perhaps even bests its debut season.
