Looney Tunes Cartoons: Elmer Fudd will no longer have a gun.

If you plan on watching the Looney Tunes Cartoons revival on HBO Max you might notice something very different about the iconic character Elmer Fudd. According to TVLine, the “wabbit” hunter no longer has his gun.

Fudd is known for walking around with his signature shotgun, but no longer will he have a gun in the Looney Tunes Cartoons. The same can be said for Yosemite Sam, who used to carry pistols. Instead, Fudd will sometimes whip out a scythe.

The change was made as a statement against America’s prevalent gun culture. However, much of the other classic mayhem found in the Looney Tunes Cartoons will still occur in the series.

More from Animation

Aside from the gun swap, it sounds like the series is planning to remain true to its roots in other ways. That means you can anticipate seeing a lot of dynamite, ACME, and various other explosive devices and chaotic schemes and pranks.

Showrunner Peter Browgardt spoke with The New York Times about their decision to nix guns, saying, “We’re not doing guns. But we can do cartoony violence — TNT, the Acme stuff. All that was kind of grandfathered in.”

Looney Tunes Cartoons: What else can you expect from the show?

According to the article, the new animated series from Warner Bros. Animation will pay homage to the beloved characters from the original in “gag-drive and visually vibrant stories.”

In total, there are 80 segments on the way that audiences can watch via HBO Max. Each new episode is approximately 11-minutes in length, although some of the shorts may vary. There are also going to be a few holiday-themed specials, which should be exciting to anyone who was a fan of the original show.

It isn’t clear if there will be more new episodes of Looney Tunes Cartoons down the line or if 80 is all they plan to make. I imagine if it performs well on the streaming service they’ll make more.
