The Woods Season 1: Does Pawel have a darker past than we think?

In the last episode of The Woods Season 1, we find out that Pawel could have murdered his wife! We also might get proof that the body in the morgue belongs to Arthur. But, what did Arthur want with Laura’s father David? The Netflix Original The Woods Season 1 still has so much to tell us!

We start with Pawel drinking his coffee. His sister in law calls him inside to watch the news. Bones have been found in the water near the location of his summer camp. Could they be his sister’s?

Pawel rushes down to the site where they were found. He finds out that the bones have already been moved. But, he still wants to look around the site. He ends up going to the coroner’s office to look at the bones.

He is asking the coroner about DNA and the cause of death. The only thing she knows is that the bones are that of a woman.

We now go back to 1994 and Lubelski and his team searching in the woods for anything they can find. They start to comb through but can’t seem to find much. Lubelski takes off on his own and finds a t-shirt. It’s a Seattle T-Shirt with some blood on it.

We then see Pawel in town buying groceries with his mother. Lubelski shows up and asks Pawel about the shirt. Before Pawel can answer his mother intervenes, but they are asked to go to the police station in the afternoon.

Adult Pawel is up late at night and calls Laura’s cell phone. She doesn’t answer. Pawel hears someone knocking at his apartment door. They leave another envelope. Pawel tries to run after them but, he again loses them.

He goes back and opens the envelope. It looks like a hard drive. He plugs it into his computer but his computer can’t open it.

So when he goes to work in the morning, he asks his secretary to help him open it and gives her directions not to open it. She them tells him that she found a witness for his case. They go to visit the witness.

We go back to Laura in the summer of 1994. She is in a dark room developing pictures, but Lubelski busts in and grabs them as evidence.

Pawel and his mother arrive at the police station like they were told to. Pawel shows up in his Seattle Shirt. Is he trying to tell them that the original shirt isn’t his? Lubelski doesn’t buy it and asks if he has more. To which Pawel responds yes. Pawel isn’t sure if the shirt in the picture is his. Lubelski tells them that they are both liars.

Laura’s pictures prove that the Seattle Shirt was his. His mother then tries to say that Pawel claimed to have lost that shirt 2 days before the murder.

Present-day Pawel and his assistant are talking to the witness and he says that he didn’t see anything. But after Pawel threatens to have him arrested for stealing something small, he agrees to write down a testimony.

Laura is asking about emails of Sylvia’s story that have been sent to her. They have been sent from inside the university she works at. Her husband, who is also the Dean, helps her to find security footage so she can figure it out.

Pawel shows up at the university and tells Laura about the bones. He asks if she is free this afternoon, to which she replies no. She has other things to tend to.

We go back to younger Pawel also calling for Laura. Only this Laura comes outside. He tells her that he is a suspect. Then he tells her that he has a plan and to meet him at the swimming pool.

The Woods Season 1: Pawel has a theory

Pawel is putting different colored tiles down in the swimming pool trying to reenact something. He lays out the events from that night. He thinks that Malczak another chaperone at the camp knows something about how the other 4 got out that night. He wants to follow him around and asks Laura for her camera.

Pawel follows Malczak to an abandoned greenhouse and watches him take a box out. Malczak places a watch in the box and puts it away. Of course, Pawel goes in to see what it is! He finds a passport, a clump of hair, and a watch.

Laura develops the pictures Pawel takes on the box and its contents.

In 2019, Pawel and his daughter are walking to the car and Pawel finds about envelop on the car. It is the same threat about how Pawel is a murder. The person also leaves behind another picture of his wife.

When he goes to get into his car, the reporter shows up and threatens Pawel. Could he be the one leaving these images around? The reporter, Krzysztof, makes a phone call and it seems like they have more for Pawel.

Laura is now looking at that footage from the library. They are looking to see who is at desk 28. They see who it is and she says there is no way it could be. Who is it? We want to know!

We see Pawel again trying to open the hard drive. It is a video of him and his wife in their apartment. It sounds like his wife is asking him to perform assisted suicide because she is so sick. In the video, Pawel does not want to do it. But she begs. Now we understand what the pictures are about.

His assistant then informs him that the videos are from the cloud and that he has been hacked.

Laura and Pawel now confront the person that sent the emails of Sylvia’s story. It was Laura’s assistant. They asked how he knows the story. He says that someone paid him 10 grand to send the stories to Laura. We had it all wrong. He tried to pawn it off on Sylvia but it wasn’t her story to begin with.

Pawel then tells Laura that they got the DNA test back and the body belongs to Arthur. But, they can’t do anything about it because they got the test done illegally.

We then see young Pawel sitting with Lubelski. He brings the pictures of what he found in the greenhouse. Another woman had gone missing. This could implicate Malczak for all of the missing persons.

When the police go to check the greenhouse, Malczak shows up with the box in hand. He gives himself up and they arrest him.

Lubelski and his partner know that he killed the woman Pawel told them about, but they don’t believe he killed the kids. But, Lubelski says he will put those murders on Malczak too since he can’t get Pawel.

In the present day, the inspector shows back up to Arthur’s place. He has a crime scene analyst with him. They confirm that he was murdered in his apartment and that the name Pawel is writing in blood on the floor.

Pawel is in his office and is confronted by another lawyer. He is representing Antoni, the witness. Pawel thinks Krzysztof paid for the lawyer to help his son’s case and it worked.

Krzysztof then sends Pawel a text message. It is a video of Pawel’s sister in law being arrested for embezzling money from his wife’s foundation.

Maybe Pawel’s life isn’t as dark as it seemed. He helps his wife end her suffering. He helps the police find a killer. But still, who killed Arthur? Who killed the other 3 victims in 1994? The Woods Season 1 isn’t making this easy on us!
