What happened in Harley Quinn Season 2’s “Dye Hard?”
The girls have returned from their trip to Themyscira and Harley is on a mission to forget the last 48 hours. After inviting King Shark and Clayface, who both have other plans, Harley ends up heading stag to the bar. With Parademons infesting Gotham, there’s only one safe bar available and the bartender just happens to be the amnesiac Joker.
Harley attempts to leave but as soon as she reaches the exit, a group of thieves invades the bar for a hostile hostage situation. Instead of fighting the goons, because she wants to make sure her dress can be returned in perfect condition, Harley attempts to sneak out. Unfortunately, she doesn’t get too far before one of the men knocks her out and she wakes up handcuffed to the Joker.
Joker takes this time to share about a dream he had where he and Harley were together on a yacht, which worries Harley that his memories are starting to reemerge. The two end up escaping through a vent together, where Joker gets Harley to share what happened with Ivy. The conversation ends with Joker shouting, “you go girl! Having a vent in a literal vent!”
While the two clowns are reuniting, Gordon is trying to get control over the Parademon situation while simultaneously attempting to get Batman to allow him to pilot the Batplane. Of course, the Dark Knight rejects this notion and keeps control of the vehicle.
Doctor Psycho has also made his return to the gang’s hideout, but only to collect his stuff and give Sy Borgman the Riddler’s schedule. Or, so he wants Sy to think. Instead, he helps Riddler escape his hamster wheel so that the riddle master can orchestrate the hostage situation and grab the helmet that controls Darkseid’s demons.
When coming face to face with Joker and Harley, Riddler questions if that’s the Joker. Joker responds with his infamous laugh but is quickly quieted by Harley’s hand over his mouth. She’d do anything to make sure the old Joker doesn’t return, but incidents throughout the episode keep making his past memories emerge, such as seeing Gordon who tackles and arrests him.
It doesn’t take long for Riddler and Doctor Psycho to return to the scene where it comes to light that the two have been working together. After creating a dome to keep them in and brainwashing Clayface and King Shark who originally arrived to help Harley, a battle ensues and ends with Sy sacrificing himself so that the rest can escape on the Batplane.
Harley Quinn Season 2’s “Dye Hard” ends with Harley making a difficult decision. It’s been decided that in order to fight off the infestation of Parademons, Gotham will need the help of the Justice League.
Joker’s memories are slowly returning, and he managed to remember that the crime-fighting team is stuck in the Book of Fables. The problem? He can’t remember where the book is. To jog his memory, Harley does the last thing she wants to do — throw him back into the vat of chemicals that originally created the Joker.
