Episode 8 of Netflix’s Raising Dion reveals Pat’s true nature.

Previously on Raising Dion, Dion (Ja’Siah Young) had a medical emergency after trying to heal Pat Rollins (Jason Ritter) with his powers. Kat (Jazmyn Simon) learned about Dion’s powers, and BIONA moved in to “extract” the burgeoning superhero. Episode 8 starts with Dion’s mom, Nicole (Alisha Wainwright), looking for Dion at BIONA.

There she is confronted by Suzanne Wu (Ali Ahn), who tells Nicole she’s aware that Dion’s been sneaking around their facility, specifically mentioning the healed fox and their missing hermit crab. While Suzanne sounds adversarial at first, she gradually assures Nicole that they are trying to protect Dion.

Suzanne mentions how, after the “Iceland event,” there were micro-storms, during which people would go missing. It’s increasingly clear that the storms are also drawn to Dion. In order to get Dion back, Nicole offers Suzanne the data she has from her deceased husband, Mark (Michael B. Jordan). True to her word, Suzanne lets Nicole see Dion after the exchange. Although she first wears a Hazmat suit, Dion and Nicole are later able to safely return home. However, things don’t stay normal.

Raising Dion: Could Dion’s powers kill him?

In a conversation between Pat and Suzanne, the question is raised about Dion’s powers possibly killing him.

They also discuss the strange necrosis happening in Iceland. Pat also theorizes that, because Dion is still a kid, he could overexert himself, possibly dying in the process.

In any case, Charlotte (Deirdre Lovejoy) ends up watching Dion while Nicole goes to work. However, Charlotte warns Nicole that she’ll eventually have to go into hiding from the “Man in the Storm.” Charlotte takes advantage of her invisibility powers to watch over Dion in school.

In class, Dion, Esperanza (Sammi Haney), and Jonathan (Gavin Munn) work on their class project. They tell their science teacher (Donald Paul) about storms happening due to cold fronts meeting warm fronts. They are working on a “storm extinguisher,” designed to propel cold air from a liquid nitrogen canister. Their teacher appreciates their efforts. It’s not all good with Dion, however. Later in the episode, Dion upsets Esperanza by lifting her out of her wheelchair and making her fly without asking her first.

Pat feels jilted

Raising Dion focuses a bit on Nicole’s job again. Although one of her graphic designs is successful, she ends up having to fix a printing flaw — suggesting she’s not out of the woods yet. On the bright side, she does dance a little bit more with Rashad (Victor Sho), who she seems to be falling for. Pat ends up seeing them dance together, making him jealous.

When Nicole returns home, Nicole asks Charlotte to stay with them to babysit Dion when she’s away. However, because Charlotte is staying there, Pat wrongly thinks Charlotte’s breakfast plate belongs to Rashad, feeding his jealousy even more.

Near the end of the episode, Pat says Nicole is taking advantage of his feelings for her. When Pat asks her about the breakfast plate he saw, Nicole reminds him that it’s none of his business, adding (in so many words) that he should just stay away from her and Dion. Later, Pat does return and is confronted by Charlotte.

Rather than admit his being at fault, Pat says he should have killed her in New Orleans and transforms into the Crooked Man/Man in the Storm. It’s a big moment for Raising Dion, obviously showing that Pat is not only a superpowered person, but has been feeding off of other survivors of the Iceland event.

Pat had seemed like a good guy overall, but this permanently changes our perception of him for good. Not only is he jealous, but potentially deadly.
