V Wars season 1, episode 7 recap: The Night Is Darkening Round Me
By Wade Wainio
Episode 7 of Netflix’s V Wars has a vampire internment camp (vamp camp).
Previously on V Wars, Dr. Luther Swann (Ian Somerhalder) worried his son, Dez (Kyle Breitkopf), would change into a bloodthirsty vampire. Also, a number of people died, which probably wouldn’t surprise anyone.
Episode 7 continues the carnage, with Mila (Laura Vandervoort) saving a random woman from another vampire. Being a vampire herself, it must be a bit of a challenge to not succumb to her own natural thirst for blood.
Of course, the episode spends a good chunk of time with Dr. Swann looking for his son. Unfortunately, he arrives at their agreed-upon location but finds Teresa (Samantha Liana Cole) dead and Dez missing. Just for the hell of it, Dr. Swann ends up staking another vampire, too, and we see Rachel (Nikki Reed) show up to pick up Dez (who is, of course, her son).
V Wars: Intentional anti-vampire hysteria?

Meanwhile, vampire leader Michael Fayne (Adrian Holmes) holds another meeting of the Bloods. We learn that Mila is running low on her own blood supply, which makes her role as a vampire-slaying vampire more challenging.
Also, the Department of National Security’s Calix Niklos (Peter Outerbridge) is annoyed to learn that Dr. Swann hadn’t been killed (it’s not entirely clear why they’d kill Dr. Swann, other than maybe wanting him to not potentially cure vampirism). On that note, we see anti-vampire vigilantes running rampant, kidnapping, and killing people.
Dr. Swann under distress
After arguing with Rachel, who feels he isn’t keeping Dez safe (which is kind of true), Dr. Swann gets pursued by another DNS agent, who noticed that Swann noticed him attacking a family. Fortunately, Dr. Swann is saved by mysterious FBI agent Jimmy Saint (Michael Greyeyes). However, Jimmy treats him like a prisoner and, initially, refuses to let him look for Dez.
That is until Swann threatens to commit suicide with a stolen handgun, knowing Saint must want Dr. Swann alive. Saint ultimately agrees to help him find Dez. Getting back to Dez, he tells his mom that he’s hungry, implying to us his vampirism may be kicking in. That’s about when someone from the DNS shows up looking for him. Rachel shoots him and they successfully escape (for now).
Other stuff
There are many unwanted visitors in this V Wars episode, apparently. Mila is also met by detectives at the door, who ask about her sister, Danika (Kimberly-Sue Murray). Later, Mila has a sexual encounter with Detective Chambers (Joanna Martynowska). Mila doesn’t provide much information about her sister, though we know Danika’s become 2nd in command to Michael Fayne.
In fact, in this episode, she advises him to keep a low profile to grow his legend. They also discuss life before “the change,” but they seem to be at peace with their newly “evolved” selves.
Things get a little worse for Kaylee Vo (Jacky Lai), however. Fresh after the murder of her business partner/co-conspirator (Teddy Moynihan), she also has her vehicle break down. On top of that, she gets chased by a Blood vampire named Brock (Dempsey Bryk). To negotiate saving her life, Kaylee explains that she’s with “Reveleaks” and can prove valuable to the Bloods information-wise. They refrain from killing her but do kidnap her, and Brock especially wants her blood.
The vamp camp
Meanwhile, Dex gets chased by a vampire in a hotel, but the vampire gets killed by an agent who takes Dez. Saint and Swann show up at Rachel’s place only to find no one there. However, they do find their way to an internment camp for vampires and find Dez there.
Jimmy attempts to talk Swann out of saving Dez, but it’s no use. Dr, Luther Swann also suggests that Dez hasn’t turned yet, despite having the Predator gene. This means he might not be a Blood.
