The Flash Season 7: Elongated Man Set to be Recast; Arc to Conclude
By Louis Skye
The Flash Season 7 is recasting a key character.
The CW’s superhero roster won’t be returning before 2021, but there’s already important casting news about The Flash Season 7.
Showrunner Eric Wallace revealed in an interview with EW that Ralph Dibny/ Elongated Man will be appearing in a different form next season.
Former Elongated Man actor Hartley Sawyer was fired from the role earlier in 2020 following revelations of racist and misogynistic tweets.
Ever since, there has been conjecture as to what would happen with the character, as he has been an integral part of Team Flash.
Wallace confirmed that Elongated Man will be recast for the remainder of his arc in the next season, though it has yet to be confirmed who will be taking on the role.
The Flash Season 7: What’s Going to Happen to Elongated Man?
Elongated Man has the ability to reshape his body—initially he could only stretch but over time, his abilities have become more sophisticated, and he can now morph into other people. This will likely be the explanation as to why Ralph Dibny looks different in The Flash Season 7.
Elongated Man’s fate was also tied to another character, Sue Dearbon, played by Natalie Dreyfuss—in the DC Comics, Dearbon becomes Ralph Dibny’s wife.
The Season 6 finale saw Dearbon in dire straits—she was framed for the murder of Joseph Carver by the villain for the second half of the season, Eva McCulloch (Efrat Dor).
With McCulloch in power and out in the world—as we have seen in The Flash Season 7 promo—Dearbon will be looking to get out of her precarious situation.
From what Wallace has revealed, Dearbon’s story will culminate next season and Elongated Man’s arc will revolve exclusively around her plot—as a result, Dibny’s presence on the show will be reduced.
However, the character won’t be written out entirely—Wallace says the show will keep the door open for his return in some form or other.
Dearbon, on the other hand, will be playing a bigger role than earlier planned. She will appear in her own right and The Flash Season 7 will also explore her background a bit more.
Wallace also revealed that Elongated Man had been slated for a two-handed journey with another series regular, but he has since been removed from that storyline entirely. The other character—who Wallace didn’t reveal—will instead be exploring that arc on their own.
Despite the lack of details, fans can surmise that the arc in question will revolve around Cisco Ramon (Carlos Valdes), who was absent during the Season 6 finale because of a quest in Atlantis. This is, of course, yet to be confirmed.
The Flash Season 7 is set for quite a few changes, but fans can expect an exciting story and plenty of character development.
