WandaVision: Disney Plus show still on track for 2020 release date
By Louis Skye
WandaVision may be the first Marvel TV series on Disney Plus despite delays caused by the pandemic, according to a new announcement.
Fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have been short of content in 2020. The pandemic halted production on all new content including The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and What/If. But one show is set to release on the Disney Plus platform—WandaVision.
The limited series following Wanda Maximoff (Elizabeth Olsen) and Vision (Paul Bettany) was set for release mid-September before the global crisis forced delays on production. With the majority of Disney Plus shows being pushed to 2021, many fans believed that the same fate would befall WandaVision.
But a video from Disney Plus has given fans hope for the show’s 2020 release.
Highlighting the content that is set to be released on the platform this year, the video includes a blink and you miss it frame of Wanda in her iconic comics-accurate super suit.
Despite the lack of new content, the video caption mentions WandaVision as an upcoming show on Disney Plus, which should be clear enough for fans. Additionally, CBR received a press release that confirms WandaVision as being part of the platform’s 2020 releases.
WandaVision: What do we know so far?
Disney Plus has yet to reveal a release date for WandaVision but we can assume that the show will only air in the last quarter of the year—giving Disney and Marvel enough time to complete shooting and post-production.
There is scarce little information available on the show—though we do know that Wanda will be playing a leading role in Doctor Strange 2. It is likely that this series will tie directly into that film.
As for Vision, his involvement in the show is a bit of a mystery. Vision was killed during the events of Avengers: Infinity War, and because his death occurred before Thanos’ snap, he was not brought back to life by the Hulk in Avengers: Endgame.
We can assume that the Vision seen in WandaVision is an alternate reality version of the character—the short trailer of the show certainly seems to suggest that that will be the plot of the series.
According to IMDB, Kat Dennings’ Darcy Lewis—who has not been seen in the MCU since Thor: The Dark World—is also supposed to appear, as is Randall Park’s FBI agent Jimmy Woo from Ant-Man and the Wasp.
Teyonah Parris is listed as Monica Rambeau, daughter of Maria Rambeau, and future Captain Marvel in the Marvel Comics. In 2019’s Captain Marvel, Akira Akbar portrayed the 11-year-old Monica, so Parris’ version in WandaVision could be a post-Endgame Monica or one from an alternate universe.
Marvel and Disney have been tight-lipped about their properties in the past, so it isn’t surprising that there is so little information available about the show.
There is plenty of room for conjecture, but with the show set for release in 2020, fans can finally see whether their guesses will come true.
