The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will not be released in August.

It will come as no surprise to most that the Marvel Cinematic Universe spin-off show, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier will not be debuting on Disney Plus this August. TVLine shared the August roster of the streaming service, and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier was not part of the list. The highly anticipated show was originally set to kick-off the slate of MCU spin-offs, but due to the global pandemic, filming was abruptly canceled.

Actors Anthony Mackie (who plays Sam Wilson/ The Falcon) and Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes/ the Winter Soldier) were shooting in Europe when the cast and crew had to leave and return home. Production was halted with only a few weeks of work left to complete.

The Falcon and the Winter Soldier is like an MCU film.

Mackie has revealed that The Falcon and the Winter Soldier feels much-like a six-hour-long film, with production values on par with the film universe. The show is set after the events of Avengers: Endgame, with Sam Wilson struggling with taking on the mantle of being the new Captain America. Steve Rogers, the original Captain America bequeathed his shield to his best friend after living out his life in the past.

Wilson and Barnes haven’t had the easiest relationship, with Barnes’ history as the villainous Winter Soldier and struggles with decades of brainwashing making him an untrustworthy ally. Wilson, on the other hand, has been the epitome of a ‘good man’ and the rightful heir to the shield. Their banter has been a highlight in the films, and we can expect more of it on The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The plot and characters have been mostly hush-hush, though we know that Supergirl alum Carl Lumbly will be joining the show as an unknown character, Wyatt Russell will be playing John Walker/ US Agent, and Daniel Brühl and Emily VanCamp will be reprising their film roles as Baron Helmut Zemo and Sharon Carter/ Agent 13.

This is the first summer in over a decade without any new and original MCU properties gracing our screens. There are no updates on when production will resume for the show, but the wait will surely be worth it.
