Ahead of its December debut, CBS has released a chilling trailer for their upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s The Stand Season 1.

CBS All Access has finally unveiled its brand new trailer for the upcoming adaptation of Stephen King’s acclaimed novel, The Stand during NYCC 2020. The Stand Season 1 will finally debut this December.

For those unfamiliar with the epic story, it follows a group of survivors after a deadly plague wipes out most of humankind. Together, they must work to rebuild and take sides in a battle against good and evil. In some ways, the story is similar to The Walking Dead and many other post-apocalyptic stories we’ve seen — but The Stand was the blueprint for most of those tales.

Whoopi Goldberg stars as Mother Abigail, a 108-year-old woman who represents the “good,” while Alexander Skarsgard plays the Dark Man, Randall Flagg. As evidenced by the trailer, Skarsgard will be his usual force to be reckoned with. That man truly does have a talent for playing charismatic, villainous characters.

What else do we know about The Stand Season 1, so far?

Alongside the trailer and the snazzy new poster, we also know that The Stand will debut on CBS All Access beginning on Dec. 17.

As for what else we know, well, the cast is stacked. Along with Goldberg and Skarsgard, the series also stars James Marsden, Amber Heard, Owen Teague, Jovan Adepo, Brad William Henke, Irene Bedard,  Nat Wolff, Eion Bailey, Heather Graham, Fiona Dourif, Katherine McNamara, Greg Kinnear, Daniel Sunjata, and Natalie Martinez.

Ironically, The Stand faces a somewhat similar predicament to Amazon Prime Video’s recent series, Utopia. Both revolve around deadly diseases. Utopia caught a lot of flack for its release timing, so it’ll be interesting to see if people think The Stand is an inappropriate show for our current times or not.
