‘Truth Seekers’ series premiere recap: ‘The Haunting of Connelly’s Nook’

Truth Seekers Premiere: What are we getting ourselves into?

The Amazon Prime Orginal Truth Seekers begins with an already spooky feel. A woman is laying in her bed and she is awoken by fire. She walks into the kitchen and sees her mom surrounded by flames.

But then we see this same woman waking up in a bed, in what looks like an institution of some kind. It appears that she does not know where she is. She is walking around in her normal clothes and the institution appears to be empty.

There are figures now chasing her down the hallway.

We are immediately pulled away from this woman and into the house of Gus. He is working on something at his desk. He is happy that whatever it is he is working on is finished and working well.

As soon as he walks away, he is immediately pulled back to the desk. We think there is a ghost behind him, but it is really his father using a stairlift.

Now, Gus is off to work. He works for a company named Smyle. This company installs internet cable in people’s homes. Reluctantly, Gus has just been assigned a trainee. His name is Elton.

They are off on their first job. Which goes smoothly.

When returning to the Smyle van, Elton hears the number station in Gus’s car. The number 1 is repeating over and over again until Elton says the number five. Then the pattern changes and the number 5 begins to be sporadically thrown in.

Gus thinks that this must mean something, but Elton is not thinking the same. Gus brings Elton to another job at Connelly’s Nook.

They start to talk to Mrs. Connelly and ask her about the history of the house, which is giving us some creepy vibes.

While Gus and Elton are fixing her cables, Mrs. Connelly brings them tea. Gus thinks that she cut the wire to have company come over.

Mrs. Connelly tells Elton that she has been looking for her dog, Pepper, that went missing in 1965. Elton is shaken by a sound coming from the upstairs. Gus returns to fix the cable and the men are on their way.

When Gus drives Elton home, Elton says that he feels bad for Mrs. Connelly because she is in the haunted house alone.

Gus leads Elton to his youtube channel “Truth Seeker,” and begins to show him paranormal events.

Gus makes Elton get out of the car, and Elton walks into his home to find his sister making a costume for a Con. Elton tells her that he made a new friend on the job. We don’t think Gus feels the same way.

When Gus gets home, he is researching the number station. He then gets a call from his boss asking to go back to the Connelly house.

When Gus and Elton arrive, Mrs. Connelly says the TV is working, but just not in the correct way. Now, they all hear the same noise Elton did.

On the TV, there seems to be a live feed from inside the house, but how and from where?

Truth Seekers: The first paranormal hunt.

Gus grabs all of his paranormal gear from the truck and they are about to go on their first ghost hunt.

Mrs. Connelly leads them upstairs. They all walk cautiously through the house.

The noise seems to be coming from her father’s old study. Gus and Elton are about to enter. When they do, they see a ball dropping to the floor.

Mrs. Connelly says the ball belonged to her dog, Pepper. Gus makes Connelly leave to make tea. Elton notices that the room they are standing in should be bigger considering the outside.

Elton starts recording and Gus is drawn to the wall where they hear the noise from. There is a secret door, which leads to another tiny door.

They find the room that was on the TV feed downstairs. Gus finds a tape that has the dog’s name on it. He puts it in the tape player. The tape is playing when Mrs. Connelly walks in.

They uncover a skeleton dog Pepper that looks to be still alive. Something from the dog takes over Mrs. Connelly’s body. The men think that Pepper “moved on,” but we are thinking differently.

Gus and Elton drive away and Mrs. Connelly runs away like a dog. On the drive, Elton says that he is going to quit. Gus tries to convince him otherwise when the number station starts saying new numbers.

Elton sees something run across the street and Gus slams on the break. It looks like the woman from the beginning of the episode.

We then see that she has snuck into the back of their truck while they were stopped.

Truth Seekers Premiere: Final Thoughts

Truth Seekers is giving us that haunted vibe in a different way. With slight comedic bits thrown throughout the episode, you never know if you are in for a laugh or a scare. It is this part of the show that sets it apart from the other haunted shows out there.

Overall, the premiere set the series up nicely. We can’t wait to see where Mrs. Connelly ends up, or what this woman is doing in the truck and who or what she is hiding from.

We would give the premiere a B+. Intrigued to continue, but want more paranormal now that we know the players.
