The hit new drama Industry HBO will be returning for a second season!

It’s been a difficult year for all of us and much of that has been reflected in the relatively barren television landscape. Without much fall TV to speak of, it didn’t seem like there would be many buzzy new shows in the final quarter of the year. But then we got the eight-episode first season of Industry HBO.

Industry has been an instant success for the cabler, creating a sexy, fun series set in the world of high finance. It’ll feel the Succession-shaped hole in your heart.

Executive Vice President of HBO Programming Francesca Orsi said, “Mickey and Konrad have captured an authentic, fresh angle on workplace culture from the bottom up and presented a complex look at navigating life in your early twenties – replete with thrills, failures and victories. It’s exciting to see fans embrace these young graduates, and we join them in anticipation of what’s in store for season two. We also send a big thanks to our partners at Bad Wolf and BBC.”

Mickey Down and Konrad Kay are the first-time creators of Industry. The series centers around a group of young grads competing for a permanent position at a premier, international bank in London called Pierpoint.

Set a date: When will Industry HBO return?

The first season of Industry has already debuted in full of HBO Max, while the final two episodes set to debut back-to-back on December 21 if you prefer to watch weekly or don’t have the streaming service. Industry initially premiered in November, so I think that the second season will premiere around the same time in 2021. That said, it could be pushed up a little earlier if television production starts to get back to normal with a potential COVID-19 vaccine on the horizon.

It’s a little too early to tell, although the next season might look a little different in terms of the sex scenes depending on when they start filming. The pandemic has created the need for much safer and stricter filming regulations to limit potential virus exposure.

Industry HBO: What will the second season be about plot-wise?

At the end of the first season, we find out that all of the grads will be moving forward with jobs at Pierpoint except for Gus, who opted to leave the company with a bang. However, despite having secured their dream jobs, the main cast doesn’t entirely end the season in the best place. Harper and Yasmin have a massive falling out after Harper throws Daria under the bus to get Eric rehired at the company. Yasmin also breaks things off with her boyfriend Seb.

During an interview with GQ, creators Down and Kay discussed their ideas for a second series.

“You do think,” says Down, “while you’re writing their first year, what they would look like and what their relationships would look like in four, five years’ time. The idea of doing a version of the show which goes on for a long time is one that we’d love to do. But it’s not up to us. You’ll have to wait and see.”

Well, it looks like they’re on the road to making their dream of running the show for several years happen and it sounds like they’re planning to keep the same core cast of characters moving forward!
