Dexter 2021 revival: Everything we know so far
By Mads Lennon
The Dexter 2021 revival is on the way, here’s everything we know so far.
There is almost no series finale as reviled as Dexter‘s. More than seven years after the serial killer drama ended, a Dexter 2021 revival is in the works, which is saying something because star Michael C. Hall was opposed to the idea for a long time.
In a recent interview with The Daily Beast, Hall discussed the “unsatisfying” finale and agreed with many of the finale’s critics, wondering, “What the hell happened to that guy?”
On the new iteration, Hall says, “I think in this case, the story that’s being told is worth telling in a way that other proposals didn’t, and I think enough time has passed where it’s become intriguing in a way that it wasn’t before.”

The 49-year-old actor seems hopeful and excited about returning to his role as Dexter Morgan, adding that this is the first time “playing a character this many years on.”
As for the new storyline, we don’t yet know the plot, but the 10-episode revival will be centered in the present, picking up seven years after the 2013 finale which sent Dexter into exile somewhere in the Oregon woods after he faked his death.
Dexter 2021: Who is the main villain?
The most significant new information we have on the upcoming revival is the antagonist. TVLine recently reported that Clancy Brown had been tapped to play Kurt Caldwell, the unofficial mayor of a small town called Iron Lake, which could be the setting for the new batch of episodes.
According to the character description, Kurt is supposedly an all-around good guy beloved by the residents of Iron Lake. He owns several trucks at the local truck stops, once a big rig-driver himself like his father before him. “If he’s got your back, consider yourself blessed. But should you cross Kurt, or hurt anyone that he cares for, God help you.”
When will the revival premiere?
Currently, the Dexter 2021 revival is scheduled for this year, although it doesn’t sound like the production on the series has started just yet. I imagine that Showtime won’t set the premiere date until late fall or winter, and that’s if they don’t run into any complications caused by the pandemic.
