Could Big Little Lies Season 3 happen at some point?
By Mads Lennon
Big Little Lies Season 3 is impossible right now due to the stars’ schedules, but it could happen in the future.
The jury is still out on whether Big Little Lies will officially return after a polarizing second season. Critically-acclaimed and a rating booster for HBO, there is no doubt that the premium cable network would love to have Big Little Lies Season 3 happen, but it’s not possible right now with the show’s stars so in-demand.
According to a new exclusive from TVLine, executive producer David E. Kelley said that while it “couldn’t be done right away. Down the road? Maybe.”
Even Nicole Kidman, who won multiple awards for her performance in the show, thinks that another season could happen. She previously told Marie Claire Australia that she and book author Liane Moriarty “have a really good idea” for a potential third season.

The 53-year-old Aussie also told TVLine, “We all love each other and want to work together. We’re deeply intertwined now. Whether that [camaraderie yields] a story that will be fascinating and complex and important, that’s a different thing. It would need to be a story that makes our jaws drop.”
Still, even if there is an idea, getting together mega-watt stars like Kidman, Zoe Kravitz, Reese Witherspoon, Shailene Woodley and Laura Dern is no easy feat.
Kidman has multiple projects lined up, including another collaboration with Moriarty to adapt her other book Nine Perfect Strangers for Hulu. Then there’s Kravitz, who is currently filming The Batman, where she’ll play Catwoman. Witherspoon is notorious for having her plate full of acting and producing projects.
But Kelley remains hopeful that someday the stars will align, and they can reunite the Monterey ladies for another season. It’s hard to say if that would include Season 2 scene-stealer Meryl Streep or not.
“We so love the show and the characters, so none of us have given up on the idea of bringing the band back together.”
