Dexter is returning, but the Dexter revival will not be set in Miami this time around.

We’re still far away from a Dexter revival premiere date, but Showtime has released some more information about the series. We previously reported that the Big Bad had been cast in Clancy Brown, and now Deadline has reported on several new casting additions to the upcoming 10-episode limited series. The details of the new characters shed some light on the Dexter revival setting, and it doesn’t seem like the titular serial killer will be returning to Miami.

Per the publication, the newcomers include Julia Jones, Alano Miller, Johnny Sequoyah and Jack Alcott. They’ll join Michael C. Hall and Brown when they set out for Massachusetts to begin production sometime next month.

The follow-up looks like it’s going to be set in upstate New York. I would wager that the exact location is Iron Lake, as it was previously revealed that Brown’s character, Kurt Caldwell, is the unofficial mayor of the small town.

As for who’s who among the new additions, Deadline reported the following: “Jones will play Angela Bishop, the first Native American Chief of Police in her town in upstate New York. Sequoyah portrays Audrey, Bishop’s brash and opinionated teenage daughter. Miller will play Logan, a sergeant for the Iron Lake Police Department and the local high school’s assistant wrestling coach. Alcott is Randall, with whom Dexter (Hall) has a meaningful encounter.”

Many fans — and Hall himself — are hoping that the Dexter revival will help to make amends for the controversial series finale that saw Dexter going into hiding as a lumberjack in Oregon somewhere. The finale has consistently been ranked as one of the worst series finales of all time despite the series being one of Showtime’s staple dramas.

No word yet on when exactly when the revival will air, but it sounds like the cabler is hoping for a late 2021 debut.
