Insecure: Why is Season 5 going to be the last?
By Mads Lennon
Insecure Season 5 was just as announced as its final season. Why?
Issa Rae’s Emmy Award-winning HBO comedy series will end with Insecure Season 5, per a new press release from HBO. Amy Gravitt, the Executive Vice President of HBO Programming, revealed that the team behind the show has “conceived a brilliant final season.”
But why is Insecure Season 5 going to be the last for the show? The press release doesn’t give an exact reason behind the decision but based on the positive response and Rae’s own statement, and it sounds like the decision is a mutual one. Gravitt even added that she was looking forward to HBO’s continued collaboration with Rae and the other writers and producers for Insecure.

Rae took to Twitter earlier today to voice her thoughts on the matter, writing, “Very excited to film our fifth and final season! We couldn’t have told a complete story without the tremendous support of our audience and the faith of @HBO. See y’all soon!”
The next season of Insecure will continue to follow the beloved characters through new and old relationships as they try to figure out what comes next in the next phase of their lives. It is scheduled to begin production this month and debut at some point this year, likely in the latter half.
While fans are going to be bummed to discover they only have one final season of Insecure to look forward to, the good news is that the cast and crew behind the series are headed into season five aware that it is the end.
Thus far, there is no sign that anything bad is going on behind-the-scenes and Rae is likely ready to move on to other endeavors as a very successful and talented writer, actor and producer. Insecure fans likely have a moving, hilarious and incredible concluding season ahead of them and can rest assure that this won’t be the last time we see Rae, or her storytelling, on our screens.
