Loki Season 1 is no longer an illusion. Fans of the God of Mischief have been eagerly awaiting any and every update about the Marvel Cinematic Universe spin-off, and now they have a release date. And it’s sooner than expected.

Deadline reported from the TCA press tour that Loki will premiere on Friday, June 11. This is in keeping with Disney Plus’ other tent pole premieres—The Mandalorian, WandaVision and The Falcon and the Winter Soldier all have Friday release dates.

After debuting in 2011’s Thor, Loki has become a fan-favorite among Marvel viewers. Many were crushed when he was killed off in the opening scenes of Avengers: Infinity War, but the character has since been resurrected after disappearing with the tesseract (space stone) in an alternate past.

Streaming exclusively on Disney Plus, the limited series will focus on the titular Asgardian trickster as a man out of time. The first trailer for Loki was a confusing look at the character’s new life. Fans, however, are far more excited to get some bonus screen time of the character.

Loki Season 1: The cast

Tom Hiddleston will be reprising his role as the trickster god on the Kate Herron-directed show. He will be joined by Owen Wilson, starring as Mobius M. Mobius, a comic book character making his MCU debut. Mobius is a member of the Time Variance Authority (TVA).

Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sophia Di Martino, Wunmi Mosaku and Richard E. Grant have also been cast in as yet unknown roles on the series.

The trailer for Loki showed viewers a completely different side to the character—he’s no longer the smartest and sneakiest person in the room. Loki is out of his depth as a prisoner of the TVA. Or is he a prisoner at all?

Loki’s interactions with Mobius allude to the idea that he becomes an agent of the reality-breaking authority. Since this Loki is from the 2012 Avengers film, he still hates his brother Thor, and the trailer hinted at the trickster’s continued agenda to end the God of Thunder.

Marvel continues to keep the details of the limited series under wraps, but the scenes from the trailer definitely suggest fans will be in for an exciting ride. Expect the unexpected this summer on Disney Plus.
