Paul Bettany and Claire Foy will lead A Very English Scandal Season 2
By Mads Lennon
Amazon and BBC One will work together to produce A Very English Scandal Season 2. The series was immensely well-received when it first premiered and was subsequently renewed. It has been a long wait between seasons but progress is finally being on the second season as the series becomes an anthology.
According to Deadline, WandaVision star Paul Bettany and The Crown star Claire Foy will team up for A Very English Scandal Season 2. Sarah Phelps, the talented writer behind the successful Agatha Christie adaptions of The ABC Murders and The Pale Horse will write the second season, which will start production later this year.
Like the first series, the second will also consist of three parts. Although this time around the show will actually be called A Very British Scandal, instead of A Very English Scandal.
Per the outlet, Season 2 will focus on the “1963 sex scandal involving Margaret Campbell, the Duchess of Argyll. During a messy divorce from her second husband, he seized images of Campbell performing a sex act on an unknown man and she became known as ‘The Dirty Duchess.’ Foy and Bettany will play the Duchess and Duke respectively.”
When will A Very English Scandal Season 2 premiere?
A Very British Scandal likely won’t premiere for a while still, since production on the series hasn’t started yet. I would guess that the series will bow next year at some point. It’s also not evident if the show will air around the same time on both BBC One and Amazon Prime or if one service will preface the other. But it will stream internationally on Amazon Prime Video.
Here is the official series logline: “A Very British Scandal turns this scandal inside out in order to explore the social and political climate of post-war Britain, looking at attitudes toward women, and asking whether institutional misogyny was widespread at the time. As her contemporaries, the press, and the judiciary sought to vilify her, Margaret kept her head held high with bravery and resilience, refusing to go quietly as she was betrayed by her friends and publicly shamed by a society that revelled in her fall from grace.”
