It seems like ages ago that the Friends reunion special was officially announced and then it got delayed multiple times due to the pandemic. According to Deadline, multiple sources have confirmed that HBO Max is finally intending to film the unscripted special next week in Los Angeles.

HBO Max has declined to comment, but it seems like the show is finally on track. Fans have been eagerly anticipating the special for over a year now as it was originally intended to be one of the first new programs launched along with the streaming service.

The entire gang will be back, including Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matthew Perry, David Schwimmer and Matt LeBlanc. Also returning is the original soundstage that the sitcom filmed on, Stage 24, located on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank.

When will the Friends reunion special premiere on HBO Max?

There is still no premiere date set for the Friends reunion but since it is intending to tape next week, we can probably expect to see it launch within the next few months, maybe this summer.

Also exciting is that David Schwimmer recently teased that while the show will be unscripted, there is something special fans should look forward to where all the cast members will be reading something.

“There is one section of it that I don’t want to give away, but we all read something,” Schwimmer said on the Graham Norton show.

Because it’s an unscripted special, it shouldn’t take as long to film as something like a full-length season of a scripted series. Therefore, I think we will legitimately get to watch the special this year and I assume it will be by the summer, if not before.
