Mare of Easttown finale is HBO Max’s most-watched episode ever

The final episode of Mare of Easttown which aired on Sunday has set a new ratings record for the cable giant as it garnered massive 3 million viewers across all HBO platforms on Sunday night alone. According to Variety, the final episode titled “Sacrament” had more than 4 million people tuning in to watch the Kate Winslet starring crime drama’s conclusion during the Memorial Day Weekend.

The episode has set a new record for any original HBO series on WarnerMedia’s streaming platform, HBO Max, as it is now the most-watched episode of any original HBO Series ever on the service.

The series which stars Academy Award winner Kate Winslet alongside Emmy winner Guy Pearce and Evan Peters bested the ratings for the finales of massive HBO hits such as The Flight Attendant and The Undoing.

Mare of Easttown had been continuously gaining positive reactions from both the audience and the critics. The show which has a Rotten Tomatoes score of 93% crashed HBO Max before the finale.

Mare of Easttown premiered with 600,000 viewers on HBO.

Mare of Easttown aired its first episode on April 18 and had 600,000 viewers tune in to it. The show saw a massive rise in ratings with its third episode which had a demo of 0.12 between 18-49 and brought 918,000 people to tune into the episode live. The numbers grew even further as the show’s sixth episode gained a 0.22 demo with more than 1.2 million viewers live.

With the finale, the series has officially joined The Undoing to become the only other series in the cable network’s history to have grown consistently with every single one of its episodes.

Mare of Easttown follows Mare (Kate Winslet), a detective from Pennsylvania who is trying her best to prevent her life from falling apart while investigating a very mysterious murder. The show is also currently the most popular show on IMDb and has a rating of 8.6.
