Warning: The following article contains spoilers for The Other Two Season 2, Episode 1.

After an extended hiatus, The Other Two is finally back and better than ever. While the show’s debut season aired on Comedy Central, Warner Bros. Television did some shuffling between seasons, and the show is now an HBO Max series, which feels like the best choice. The first two episodes of The Other Two Season 2 are now available to stream, with new episodes dropping on Thursdays.

The Other Two Season 2, Episode 1, “Chase Goes to College,” catches up on what all the Dubeks have been doing since we last saw them. After his disastrous performance at the VMAs, Chase (Case Walker), or “ChaseDreams,” as he’s known, opted to ditch his singing career and attend college at NYU.

He goes on his mom’s daytime talk show, The Pat Dubek! Show, for his final live television interview. Pat (Molly Shannon) spends the majority of her talk show discussing her children, even Cary (Drew Tarver) and Brooke (Helene Yorke), who are still struggling to find success in the city.

With Chase at college, Brooke needs to find a new kid to manage, proving more difficult than she’d like to admit. Brooke spends hours scrolling TikTok for talented teen musicians and begging them to move to NYC so she can represent them. She even crashes a birthday party for her friend’s 9-year-old to audition each kid in attendance by having them sing “Happy Birthday” one at a time, to no avail.

The Other Two Season 2, Episode 1 recap: What have Cary & Brooke been up to?

At one point, Brooke thinks she’s hit the jackpot when she finds a teen who makes popular drag videos, but when she goes to scout him at his house, she accidentally outs him to her parents. Seeing as Brooke has a gay brother, the possibility of doing so sickens her to the point of throwing up over the balcony.

Luckily, Brooke didn’t actually do any damage since the kid’s parents already knew about his videos and are just looking for the right manager. They’ve pulled this ruse on many unsuspecting visitors.

Meanwhile, Cary is doing a bunch of hosting gigs like Age Networth Feet and The Gay Minute. His agent, Dan, keeps sending him out as a host, although Cary would prefer more acting opportunities.

At least his personal life is going well. Cary now has his official first boyfriend, Jess (Gideon Glick). While the pair have only been together for two weeks, Cary tells Brooke that he really likes him, and they have a lot in common.

The Other Two Season 2, Episode 1 recap: Chase drops out of NYU

The Other Two Season 2, Episode 1 culminates in a dinner between the Dubek family at Blake Lively’s new Asian fusion restaurant (“This feels racist.”). But before they can go inside, Brooke notices Lance (Josh Segarra) outdoors in a see-through raincoat (he’s now into apparel).

Apparently, he got an invite to dinner from the family text thread, which he’s still part of. Brooke sends him away, though as she says, she still misses him every day, and it makes her feel pathetic.

After multiple failures, Brooke finally asks Pat if she can be her co-manager alongside Streeter (Ken Marino), even though she feels daytime television is beneath her. Pat exuberantly agrees. But then Chase shows up for dinner. He’s dropped out of NYU. Cary and Brooke discover tons of videos of students recording Chase in class and their dorms on social media.

Obviously, his transition into “normal” life hasn’t been easy. Now Brooke will be co-managing Chase and Pat. Brooke promises her younger brother that she’ll make him an even more famous singer than before. Of course, after Chase leaves, Cary questions how she’s going to do that since they’ve already established he can’t sing. “I’ll sleep on it.”
