The Other Two Season 2, Episode 2, “Pat Connects with Her Fans,” is all about, well, Pat connecting with her fans. The Pat Dubek Show! continues to be an Ellen-adjacent success, especially with a new segment where the show, in partner with Shutterfly (doesn’t that sound familiar), gifts $25,000 to men coming out as gay for the first time.

Of course, once people find out that the show will give you thousands of dollars just for sharing a heartwarming coming out video, it doesn’t take long for people to start taking advantage of Pat’s generosity and general cluelessness—a running gag this week is that Pat keeps booking people who look like famous people but aren’t, like a woman who she mistakes for Mayim Bialik from The Big Bang Theory.

A gay couple with a significant age gap masquerades as a father/son pair to get money from the show. Seeing the fake son (Noah Galvin), who claims to be a 25-year-old coming out for the first time, Cary can’t help but relate to him. He and Jess decide to help this supposed father and son learn more about gay culture and hope to make the “dad” (Tuc Watkins) more tolerant of his son.

Little do Cary and Jess know that the couple just wants to have a Grindr threesome and hang out at NYC gay clubs. They venture to a local restaurant for lunch, where Cary and Jess happen to be dining, too. At the same time, the fake couple is booking their Grindr date, Cary and Jess approach and offer to show them around town. Not wanting to blow their cover, the fake couple agrees. Further complicating things is when their Grindr date (Noam Ash) shows up. The fake dad tells him to pretend to be his other straight son from Kansas in exchange for $1,000.

Ironically, Cary and Jess are a very tame, vanilla gay couple compared to the fake pair. They spend the day showing them around to the Big Gay Ice Cream Shop and other low-key places until the couple convinces them to take them to a gay club. Cary doesn’t even know any local gay clubs and has to call Brooke for advice.

At the club, Cary and Jess quickly realize that the supposed “straight son from Kansas” is also gay. Cary panics, thinking the fake dad will freak out at having two gay sons instead of just one. Fake dad goes along with it, pretending that it’ll be hard, but he knows he can accept it.

Cary admits that he wishes his own father had been more like him, as when his dad found out he was gay, he just stopped coming to New York altogether. They hug, and then the fake dad goes in for a kiss, leaving Cary extremely confused as he walks away.

Then the door opens, and the rest of Pat’s audience files out.

She loves her fans! Brooke tells her mom to go home and get some sleep before the next show, but of course, by then, it’s already time for Pat to go into makeup in preparation for it.
