Batwoman Season 3: Bridget Regan cast as Poison Ivy
By Louis Skye
Batwoman Season 3 has found its Poison Ivy! Bridget Regan will take on the fan-favorite DC Comics anti-hero role in the third installment of the CWVerse show. The news was reported by Variety.
Regan is a well-known face to superhero film and television fans. She previously played the duplicitous Dottie Underwood in the first season of Marvel’s Agent Carter. Regan also played the charming but terrifying Rose on The CW’s Jane the Virgin.
Her other acting credits include The Last Ship, Paradise Lost, White Collar, and guest-starring roles on shows such as Sons of Anarchy, The Good Wife, Grey’s Anatomy, and MacGyver.
Fans of the show have been getting regular casting updates in the run-up to Batwoman Season 3, which is set to premiere on October 13.
Batwoman Season 3: Who is Poison Ivy?
Batwoman Season 3 is already looking stacked. Before Regan’s casting news was shared, Victoria Cartagena was announced to be returning as former Gotham City detective Renee Montoya.
We also know that Robin Givens will be playing Jada Jet, a CEO in Gotham, in the forthcoming season. Rumors have it that Jada Jet might be revealed as the birth mother of Ryan Wilder/Batwoman (Javicia Leslie).
The Poison Ivy news isn’t unexpected. The character was teased in the closing moments of the previous season when unnatural vines started crawling out of Gotham harbor onto the city’s shores.
Poison Ivy has been a mainstay in the DC Comics universe for years. Formerly known as Pamela Isley, an environmentalist in Gotham, she took on the moniker Poison Ivy after a colleague’s experiments on her turned Isley poisonous.
Though viewed as a villain, Poison Ivy is more of an anti-hero. She believes that plants should be saved and protected, even at the cost of human life. This has put her at loggerheads with Batman and will likely be the reason why she goes toe-to-toe against Batwoman in Season 3.
In recent years, Poison Ivy has turned over a new leaf (the pun had to be included), especially once she began a romance with fellow villain Harley Quinn.
Though Harley Quinn is unlikely to appear in Batwoman Season 3, Poison Ivy is a great inclusion in the queer-focused superhero show.
Interestingly, Regan is set to be a guest star on the show, not a series regular. This could mean that Poison Ivy will be one of the many villains Team Batwoman will have to face. Considering this is Gotham, that hardly comes as a surprise.
While Poison Ivy is likely to be the primary villain next season, I hope she gets a redemption arc. With climate change causing unprecedented disasters worldwide, the optics of having an environmentalist as a villain wouldn’t be great.
Either way, it’s going to be exciting to see a live-action Poison Ivy again!
