Emmys 2021: Brett Goldstein wins Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series
By Mads Lennon
The Emmys 2021 category for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series is stacked with primarily actors from Apple TV+ hit Ted Lasso and Saturday Night Live. Find out who won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy series at this year’s Emmy Awards below!
For starters, just looking at the category, it’s clear to see that it is Ted Lasso’s night to lose. The category features four actors from the show, including Brett Goldstein, Jeremy Swift, Nick Mohammed and Brendan Hunt.
Goldstein is a favorite to win with his excellent portrayal of Roy Kent, a fan-favorite character who has won the hearts of many. Roy is easily one of the best characters on the show, and Goldstein has been fantastic as him throughout both seasons thus far. Goldstein seemed like a sure thing with Kenan Thompson coming in as a potential dark horse contender for his long-standing run on Saturday Night Live.
Apart from Thompson, Bowen Yang was also nominated for his work on the long-running sketch comedy and could also trump Goldstein as his work on Saturday Night Live was acclaimed this past season. Paul Reiser received a nomination for The Kominsky Method, while Carl Clemons-Hopkins was nominated for the HBO Max breakout comedy Hacks.

Ultimately, Brett Goldstein ended up winning the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series for his fan-favorite role as Roy Kent in Ted Lasso. It’s not surprising that he won and it was hilarious to see Goldstein go on stage and try to get through a speech without cursing (he didn’t manage to accomplish it). Jason Sudeikis also won tonight for Outstanding Lead Actor for playing the title role.
