Emmys 2021: Jason Sudeikis wins Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series

The Emmys 2021 just announced the actor that won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series! Before we get into who won, let’s discuss the category itself and who received nominations this year.

Jason Sudeikis was easily the favorite to win for his excellent performance in the breakout Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso. Sudeikis already picked up a Golden Globe Award for his performance and seemed destined to win the Emmy, too.

Apart from Sudeikis, this category consisted of several actors from other sitcoms like The Kominsky Method and Kenan. Michael Douglas received a nomination for The Kominsky Method, and Kenan Thompson was nommed for his work on the freshman comedy series Kenan. Anthony Anderson was also nominated for black-ish, which isn’t surprising considering he has been nominated multiple times in this category.

Also nominated was William H. Macy for Shameless, another actor who has been nominated several times. Last year, Schitt’s Creek locked up all the comedy categories, but since the show is over, it should be a more exciting year.

Jason Sudeikis won the award for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series for starring as the titular role in the Apple TV+ comedy Ted Lasso. Sudeikis’s win is one of several wins for the breakout Apple comedy with Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham also winning for the show.

This has been a fantastic night for the comedy which isn’t surprising given that it has dominated everyone’s television screens for the past two years, pretty much. And a third season is already underway. Sudeikis hinted that they are already working on writing Season 3 while at the Emmys tonight, which is plenty exciting!
