But before we get into the win, let’s briefly discuss the nominations in this category and who was favored to win. Like most of the comedy categories, this category had a few Ted Lasso stars in the mixture. Critics and the academy are loving Ted Lasso, so it always felt like one of the actresses was going to win this award.
Hannah Waddingham has been one of the big breakout stars on the Apple TV+ comedy, making her the favorite to win for her excellent portrayal of Rebecca Welton. However, Juno Temple has also been amazing and hilarious on the show as Keeley Jones, so it’s possible she could have beat out Waddingham, albeit not likely.
Outside of the Apple TV+ show, Hacks nominee Hannah Einbinder cast a spell on audiences and critics alike. Then there is Rosie Perez, who was heartbreaking and hilarious on the HBO Max dark comedy The Flight Attendant.
Apart from these talented actresses, Saturday Night Live has three hilarious ladies in the mix with Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon and Aidy Bryant, all three definitely deserving of the award.

Hannah Waddingham officially won the award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series for her role as Rebecca Welton in Ted Lasso. While she start out as the antagonist in the first season, Waddingham has quickly morphed Rebecca into a beloved fan-favorite character. We all love her and her speech was incredibly endearing. It’s no wonder why she won this award and it was well-deserved! Jason Sudeikis also won tonight for playing the title role.
