Emmys 2021: Ted Lasso wins Outstanding Comedy Series
By Mads Lennon
At the Emmys 2021, the award winner for the Outstanding Comedy Series has been announced. Which show won the award? Before we get into the winner, let’s discuss the category itself and which shows were nominated.
Easily the favorite to win was Ted Lasso, Apple TV+’s breakout comedy which was nominated for multiple awards tonight. The series stars Jason Sudeikis and has become a favorite among critics and fans alike thanks to its heartwarming tone, something we’ve all needed over these past two years.
While Ted Lasso is the favorite to win, Hacks is easily a dark horse contender. The Jean Smart-led comedy was a massive success for HBO Max and became a favorite of many. Then there’s also The Flight Attendant, another great show from HBO Max.
PEN15 was also nominated. This hilarious Hulu series is probably the most accurate middle school representation we’ve ever had. It’s a shame it hasn’t gotten more attention. Other nominees include Netflix series Cobra Kai, ABC’s long-running black-ish, and the other Netflix series The Kominsky Method.
The Netflix series Emily in Paris was also nominated, and we’re still collectively scratching our heads over how that happened, considering it was panned by just about everyone.

Ted Lasso ended up winning the award for Outstanding Comedy Series and ultimately stealing the night with multiple big wins, not dissimilar from the Schitt’s Creek that happened last year! Apart from winning this big award, Jason Sudeikis, Brett Goldstein and Hannah Waddingham also won awards for their work on the show.
The show is available to stream right now on Apple TV+ if you haven’t had the chance to watch it yet and want to catch up and see what all of the hype is about!
