Only Murders in the Building Season 1, Episode 6 recap: To Protect and Serve
By Maria Alicia
In the previous episode of Only Murders in the Building, the trio discovered that Tim Kono might have been hiding from a black market jewelry dealer. Will they all get the answers they have been looking for in Only Murders in the Building Episode 6?
We start with the real detective on the case, Detective Williams, as a child. She is recounting a television show where she learned how to be alone and liked it.
She walks into her wife, who is listening to a true-crime podcast. Yes, it is Only Murders in the Building. Her wife is concerned that her work is going to consume her. As they quiet down, Williams realizes that the podcast is about a case that she had.
Only Murders in the Building Episode 6: Will Williams rethink the case?
The crew is still at Tavo’s shop. They are going through the jewelry. Tavo says that he was trying to get a piece from a dealer named Angel, and it looks like he didn’t get it. Tim was supposed to meet a man named “Cutter” in the shop today. Just then, a woman walks in that isn’t Cutter. It is Mabel’s mother.
They all go to Mabel’s house to eat. Tavo texted Mabel a picture, and they tell Mabel’s mother about the death of Tim Kono. Mabel’s mother is afraid that she is getting trapped in the past, forcing Mabel to tell everyone about what happened in the building years ago and why Oscar went to jail.
Williams is back at her desk going through evidence from the Tim Kono case. She realizes the investigators never submitted a specific piece of evidence.
Mabel’s mother talks to Charles and Oliver alone. She tells them that she was happy that Mabel would go live with her aunt in the summer at first, but she was wrong. What happened to Mabel in the Arconia has changed her.
Mabel tells the guys that she should probably quit the podcast, and they are on their own.
When Charles and Oliver get home, they sit down, and Charles says they shouldn’t continue with the podcast either. He thinks that they should not expose Mabel’s pain. Oliver believes they should, and then Oliver gets a text from Teddy, their sponsor. Teddy wants Oliver to come over right away.
Detective Williams is back at her house. Her wife is still trying to convince her that the guys are onto something. Williams tells her that evidence is missing.
Oscar is still at Mabel’s. They come across an old album labeled “My Hardy Boys.” It is pictures of them from the past. Tavo has texted a picture of Zoe’s ring to Mabel. Oscar says that she wasn’t wearing it when she died.
Only Murders in the Building Episode 6: Could the jewelry dealer be involved?
Oscar asks Mabel to stop talking about the case. The two of them share a moment.
Charles and Oliver go to Teddy’s. Cinda is on Jimmy Fallon. She starts talking nice about the podcast and ends up laughing about it. But, Teddy is excited about the buzz. Charles says that they don’t want to continue because they lost Mabel. Teddy convinces them to keep going.
We go back to Mabel’s house. Her mom is asking her about Oscar. Mabel convinces her mother that she needs to finish what she started.
Detective Williams is sitting at her desk listening to the podcast. She puts something in an envelope and addresses it to Mabel. Could it be Tim’s cell phone?
Charles and Oliver are sitting watching their downloads increase and are still talking about ripping up the check from Teddy. Charles realizes that the name on it is “Angel.” Could it be related? Mabel walks in and apologizes for lying. She says that it is hard for her to trust people. She also says that she wants to finish the podcast and then hands over Tim’s phone.
They all need to figure out the code to get in. Charles then takes Teddy’s picture and puts it up on the suspect board. Could he be onto something?
