Since Game of Thrones left a sour taste in fans’ mouths, HBO’s upcoming spinoff House of the Dragon will try to save the show’s legacy. Today HBO released the first House of the Dragon teaser trailer so you can get your first look!

When it comes to large-scale television shows that can rival the production of blockbuster films, Game of Thrones was one of the best. Despite the story and writing setbacks of the later seasons, there is still a lot to love from HBO’s epic fantasy series. As a season eight and series finale defender, I will always welcome more stories based on this incredible universe created by George R.R. Martin, enter House of the Dragon.

House of the Dragon release date and synopsis

HBO has not confirmed the release date yet, but the series will premiere sometime in 2022.

The following is the show’s official synopsis:

"Based on George R.R. Martin’s “Fire & Blood,” the series, which is set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, tells the story of House Targaryen."

Considering how much we heard about this dynastic family in Game of Thrones, it will be exciting to see these platinum-haired rulers in their prime controlling Westeros.

House of the Dragon cast

Since this series is a spinoff of a well-established series, House of the Dragon‘s momentum has earned far beyond many other upcoming television shows. While the name of George R.R. Martin might help raise the profile, let us not forget the amazing cast attached to the series as well.

The leads of this show include Paddy Considine from The Death of Stalin and The World’s End, Matt Smith of Doctor Who and The Crown fame, Olivia Cooke from Ready Player One and Sound of Metal, along with Rhys Ifans from Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 and The Amazing Spider-Man.

Let’s also remember the fantastic work Game of Thrones did in creating new superstars. The cast mentioned above are just some of the well-established names. There is also Emma D’Arcy, Eve Best, and journeyman actor Graham McTavish who could very easily steal the show once it premieres next year.
