The following article contains SPOILERS for Supergirl Season 6, Episode 17

With Lex Luthor’s and Nyxly teaming up, the Super Friends must learn how to defeat these two masterminds in the latest episode of Supergirl Season 6.

Check out our recap of last week’s episode here!

Lex Luthor is back and claims to be the key to Nyxly’s success by helping her get the All Stone. The Imp Princess is hesitant because Lex is just a man in a suit. To save his own hide, Lex does what he does best and talks fast. He explains that he is from the future and he brought her consciousness back which was the voice from the last episode. After Mitch comes back on the ship and explains to Nyxly who he is, Nyxly becomes irate at Lex Luthor for being just another powerful man who sends women to the Phantom Zone. Luthor flees but not before at least tempting Nyxly with his plan.

Within The Tower, Kara just told the Super Friends that she quit CatCo and while they are all shocked, they clearly understand that Kara needs some time away to focus on being Supergirl. Brainy brings Nia, Kelly, and Lena to the lab leaving Kara and J’onn to welcome Alex to their hideout. The three of them all ooh and aww all over the engagement ring Alex prepares to give to Kelly at Al’s Bar tomorrow night. When she goes to the bar, however, Alex finds out it will be closed for a private function, putting her romantic plan in jeopardy.

Supergirl Season 6 Episode 17: The Super Friends try to trick Nyxly

The Super Friends are preparing their plan to stop Nyxly, they explain to William and the audience that they will be using Lena’s magic to mimic the energy of the totems they already have to create a fake Love Totem. By doing this, they will draw out Nyxly to an area they have secured and prepared to attack. In execution, the first half of the plan goes well but the Super Friends are unable to subdue and detain Nyxly. After it looks like the heroes are about to capture Nyxly, Lex Luthor comes to save the day with his energy blasts and kryptonite and leads to the villains’ escape.

Even though Lex saved her, Nyxly still does not like him or trust him. Earlier we found out Lex is doing all of this because of his love for Nyxly which does garner some sympathy for the villainous mastermind. Back at The Tower, Lena explains how she is nervous to use her magic because of Lex’s involvement and how she does not want to create a disaster as her mother did. Then, a reenergized Kara is back and all of the Super Friends are trying to figure out how to stop the two villains they have struggled to defeat. Brainy is still traumatized from when he helped Lex so his mind is elsewhere.

To try and use the totem’s power, J’onn steps up to take on the Courage Totem’s gauntlet. This means he has to experience a moment he lacked true courage. something Kara failed to do repeatedly in episode 13. After fighting the White Martians in his vision, J’onn succeeds in the gauntlet. This means the Super Friends now have access to the Courage and Humanity Totem’s true powers.

The Love Totem is discovered in a church within Portugal so that’s where Nyxly duels with Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, and Sentinel. The Imp Princess is able to blast away Martian Manhunter and Sentinel but she uses the Dream Totem’s power on Supergirl by making her experience visions of the phantom’s from her time in the Phantom Zone. The visions really shake up Supergirl and she ends up bonding with J’onn who is still shaken up from seeing his homeland and family being destroyed. J’onn admits he will never be able to save his Mars family, but he will do anything to protect the family he has now. Kara enlists Lena to help both of them face their trauma and inner demons.

Inside Luthor Mansion, Lex helps Nyxly by adjusting her crystal ball and adapting technology with Imp energy. The two look to finally be bonding and that can only spell disaster for Kara and the Super Friends.

After talking with William about their relationship, Alex storms into Al’s Bar to fight for her romantic plan to propose to Kelly. When she arrives, it turns out Kelly was the one who booked the bar so she could have her romantic plan go ahead. The two express their love and it turns out they knew they loved the other at the same moment. Alex is about to propose and when she brings out the ring, it has turned into the Love Totem. Just as they realize this, Nyxly and Lex arrive to ruin the romantic moment. After a yell from the adorable Esme, the Imp Princess and the LuthorCorp CEO are met by Supergirl, Martian Manhunter, and Brainiac. The villains are overpowered by the heroes with the powers of the totems behind them, leading Nyxly and Lex to retreat without the Love Totem.
