Mare of Easttown: Why now is the perfect time to rewatch
By Taylor Gates
We never need an excuse to rewatch Mare of Easttown, the HBO phenomenon that took home four Emmys (including Kate Winslet for best lead actress and Julianne Nicholson and Evan Peters for both of the supporting actor categories), but it never hurts to have a reason — or four.
While the show is perfect viewing year-round, there’s never been a better time to step back into Easttown. Here’s why now is the time to start your rewatch.
Reason 1 to rewatch Mare of Easttown: The fall vibes are everything
There’s no question about it — the fall vibes in Mare of Easttown are absolutely off the charts. The beautiful cinematography is completely immersive, making us feel like we’re experiencing autumn in Philly’s western suburbs. We can practically hear the leaves crunching under our feet, feel the chill in the air, and smell the campfire scent drifting from the woods.
Not to mention Mare is an undeniable fall style icon. She’s the queen of layers, and her tried-and-true puffy jacket/boots combo is ridiculously cozy. It’s truly an aspirational look for everyone who’s going to need their coffee intake doubled once daylight savings hits and would rather be cuddling under a blanket than facing the work grind.
Reason 2 to rewatch Mare of Easttown: You can pick up on clues you missed the first time
Though we already know the ending to the mystery, watching it a second time a few months after its premiere might be even more fun than the initial viewing. Going in already knowing what happens will let you pick up on subtle hints and foreshadowing, allowing you to appreciate the genius of the writing even more than before.
Reason 3 to rewatch Mare of Easttown: The chaotic families will help get you through the holidays
The holidays are quickly approaching, and for many, that means reconnecting with family — for better and for worse. Nobody does family dysfunction quite like the Sheehan clan, and Mare’s meddling mother, rebellious daughter, and complicated custody battle with her precious grandson are sure to make you feel less alone when it comes to getting through your own family drama. (Although if Jean Smart showed up at our Thanksgiving table, we would not be complaining.) Just take comfort in the fact your issues probably aren’t quite as dire as what the Ross crew is dealing with.
Reason 4 to rewatch Mare of Easttown: Give yourself a refresher before “best of 2021” lists start coming out
2021 is somehow less than two months from being over, which means end-of-the-year “best of” lists will start coming out in no time. Since it was first released way back in the spring, it wouldn’t hurt to give Mare of Easttown another watch before deciding where it falls within your own TV rankings.
Mare of Easttown is currently streaming on HBO Max. Will you give it another watch this fall?
