Peacemaker trailer, premise, cast, release date, and more!
The release of DC Comics and HBO Max’s Peacemaker trailer has given audiences a look into the upcoming spin-off of James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
After David Ayer’s lackluster attempt at bringing the villains-turned-expendable-task force to the big screen, James Gunn was given the reigns. As opposed to Ayer’s film, it looks as though Warner Bros. and DC Comics gave the Slither director a much longer leash that resulted in a 90% critic score and 82% with fans on Rotten Tomatoes and exceeded box office predictions with an international gross of $167.4 million.
Before the film was released, however, a universe was already being built by James Gunn with the announcement of a spin-off series about professional wrestler-turned-actor John Cena’s character in Christopher Smith, or Peacemaker. This character stood out from the rest because of the complexities since Peacemaker has the patriotism of Captain America but the morality and homicidal tendencies of the Winter Solider. After the events of The Suicide Squad (2021), audiences will get to see more John Cena as the titular character, along with some familiar faces and a few new ones as well.
Peacemaker story premise
The following is an excerpt from WarnerMedia about what fans and audiences alike should look forward to seeing.
"PEACEMAKER will explore the origins of the character that John Cena first portrayed in James Gunn’s 2021 film, “The Suicide Squad” – a compellingly vainglorious man who believes in peace at any cost, no matter how many people he has to kill to get it."
Peacemaker trailer shows audiences more of the cast
Returning from James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad, there will be the aforementioned John Cena, Steve Agee as John Economos (the warden of the villainous team’s prison source in Belle Reeve), and Jennifer Holland as Emilia Harcourt, an NSA agent who was assisting Amanda Waller.
Rounding out the cast are a bunch of newcomers to Peacekeeper’s story. Danielle Brooks (Orange is the New Black) will be a co-lead, according to James Gunn, who is also very much diametrically opposed to Cena’s character. Then there is Freddie Stroma (Harry Potter franchise) as Adrian Chase/Vigilante who is a district attorney by day and fast healing crime fighter by night. There is also Chukwudi Iwuji (Luke Cage) as Clemson Murn, a character we do not know much about yet. Finally, there is the ever-phenomenal Robert Patrick, who will be playing Auggie Smith, the father of Christopher/Peacemaker. Considering Peacemaker is an intense homicidal killer looking to achieve peace, it is going to be interesting to see what his boomer dad is like.
