What happens to Negan now on The Walking Dead?
Probably one of the wild card characters in The Walking Dead as of late has been Negan. Played by actor Jeffrey Dean Morgan, known for his work on several TV series and films such as Grey’s Anatomy, Magic City, P.S I Love You, Watchmen, and The Unholy.
Everyone can agree that Negan’s character has changed dramatically. He essentially was able to do what The Governor could not: making positive changes while also accepting who he is.
He’s a creature of habit that likes to take time for deep reflection while also making a hilarious comment or two. Even in the face of danger (insert the Ding ding reference).
It’s hard to believe that the one solely responsible for the deaths of Glenn and Abraham several seasons ago, is now a free man about to get a fresh start for probably the first time since his wife Lucille died. But will he ever truly get a fresh start or will his past haunt him forever?
Negan is on his own but who or what will he counter on The Walking Dead?
In the most recent episode of The Walking Dead, “No Other Way,” Negan decides to leave Maggie and the group for good upon the defeat of The Reapers. After seeing Maggie going back on her word, (in a rather epic way) Negan makes the decision any would make in his shoes.
He leaves before she could ever get the chance to kill him. This of course means he is literally on his own with just the clothes on his back.
Understandably, Lydia, who he had become a dear friend and father figure to, was saddened upon hearing he wasn’t returning. Even Father Gabriel looked upset, as they had several interactions together, especially during Negan’s time in the cell at Alexandria.
But is Negan gone for good to live out his life alone? Based on several scenes from The Walking Dead Season 11B trailer, he is seen with a mysterious woman, sporting different clothes and attacking someone or something (probably walkers).
There are of course rumors that he will arrive at The Commonwealth at some point. Will the show allow Negan to reveal his past to every person he becomes close with or will he simply let his past die?
The trouble is there isn’t a correct way to approach this. Sure honesty helps but will that in fact turn people away?
If he neglects to reveal all of his past and those he becomes close to find out, will they abandon him? Does Negan even want to become close to anyone again?
Judging by his time spent in his cell, the best way I could decipher Negan at this point is that he can handle being alone but doesn’t like being lonely. If given the opportunity to lead a group or community again, he would probably take it but under a different approach.
There is no doubt in my mind that he doesn’t find power thrilling but at the same time is ready to adapt his methods. Will we see Negan at The Commonwealth?
If so, what kind of man will he be? Season 11 isn’t over yet and I’m sure the show will have more than its fair share of surprises coming our way!
