Women of The Walking Dead: Let’s talk about Rosita
The women of The Walking Dead are versatile at their core. They are fighters, thinkers, mothers, lovers, and innovators.
Perhaps one of the absolute strongest women from the beginning is none other than Rosita Espinosa. While the spotlight may have been on, at the time her romantic partner Abraham, when she first appeared in season 4, she has since gone through huge character development.
Through her loves, losses, setbacks, and triumphs, it’s time for us to talk about Rosita. Rosita Espinosa (Christian Serratos) was introduced alongside, Abraham Ford (Michael Cudlitz) and Eugene Porter (Josh McDermitt).
Her and Abraham’s mission at the time was to safely transport Eugene to Washington, D.C. as he claimed to know how to end the apocalypse. Of course, this wound up being a farce and before long the trio were new members of Rick’s group.
From fighter to mother, who is the determined Rosita on The Walking Dead?
While Rosita and Abraham had a very intimate relationship, he called it quits and instead wanted to pursue Sasha Williams (Sonequa Martin-Green). While this out of the blue breakup angered and upset her, losing Abraham at the hands of Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan) was far worse.
So much so that she had planned to kill Negan herself with a bullet Eugene made for her. When Negan kills Spencer Monroe (Austin Nichols), a very short-lived fling, she takes her shot but misses and instead damages Negan’s beloved bat Lucille.
This setback does wind up costing the group Eugene who becomes Negan’s personal bullet maker at The Sanctuary. Upon Rosita’s next attempt to kill Negan she and Sasha decide to team up.
But alas, the plan fails, Eugene refuses to escape as he had a bigger plan in motion no one knew of, and Sasha gets captured in the process. By the end of the war, Negan is defeated, and a somewhat normal life could begin again in Alexandria.
Her life took a most unexpected turn when she becomes pregnant with Siddiq’s (Avi Nash) child, Socorro or Coco for short, just as she establishes a relationship with Father Gabriel Stokes (Seth Gilliam). But becoming a mother may have made her countless times stronger.
Even upon the loss of Siddiq due to a Whisperer spy within Alexandria, she refrained from giving up. Rosita is a survivor, she’s had military experience, she’s innovative, which meant there was no way she was quitting now.
Not when she had a child to love and care for, a community who depends on her and a relationship worth keeping. At times she may have appeared standoffish but that is far from whom she truly is.
Even after Eugene’s countless attempts over the series to win her heart, she remains a most loyal friend to him. She’s bonded with several characters and doesn’t think twice before aiding those who need help.
Rosita is still going strong on The Walking Dead. She and Daryl are now soldiers for The Commonwealth, already proving to Mercer her strength and dependability. Where will she go from here?
There’s no doubt that as things at The Commonwealth continue to get hostile, she’ll be there, weapons in hand, ready to take out her enemies and protect her loved ones.
