Loki, is but one of many successful Disney+ original series’. The Marvel villain, now perhaps anti-hero, found himself in a predicament perhaps no one saw coming.

Season 1 follows the story of how in one timeline, Loki manages to obtain the Tesseract and escapes arrest for his crimes against New York City as seen in the 2012 film The Avengers. This action was not supposed to happen and thus he’s arrested by the TVA (Time Variance Authority).

He is spared by TVA agent Mobius, who is trying to capture another Loki variant. Yes, there are several Lokis’ that exist and this one happens to be a woman.

What transpires is Loki finding out what was supposed to happen to him, this includes watching his eventual death by Thanos, Loki learning more about himself, and perhaps what’s really going on at the TVA. By the end of the series, Loki and his female variant, Sylvie, meet He Who Remains whose sole responsibility is keeping watch over the timeline.

Loki’s story isn’t over yet, but when will the God of Mischief return to Disney+ for season 2?

Without him, everything would fall into chaos. Angered and upset by having to live on the run her entire life, Sylvie ignores Loki’s pleas and kills He Who Remains.

When Loki returns to the TVA, Mobius does not recognize him and statues of what appears to be Kang the Conqueror have replaced previous statues of the TVA’s three Time Keepers. A story that in itself was fake.

So where does this leave Loki season 2? A second season has been confirmed as you can read the details here, but when we see Loki again?

According to Digital Spy, “Industry magazine Production Weekly reported the second season was meant to start production in January 2022, but there doesn’t seem to have been any confirmation of this anywhere on social media or by Marvel itself.”

Could it be that news is being withheld until the film, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is released on May 6? It seems as though the Marvel Universe is out of sorts thanks to several factors meddling with the timeline.

Perhaps the conclusion of the film will set forth the path for Loki season 2 to continue. We expect characters like Loki, Sylvie, Mobius, Ravonna and Hunter B-15 to return but will we see other Marvel characters?

What of Kang the Conqueror? It looks like we have plenty of time to theorize what could happen next season.

For now, you can rewatch Loki season 1 on Disney+.
