The tenth and final episode of The Umbrella Academy season 3 begins with exactly seven of them making it through the portal, except Klaus. Five knows his brother was right behind him but Reginald gaslights him and everyone into thinking Klaus was sucked up into the kugelblitz.
Reginald hurries everyone along and does not let them think too much about what is going on but passes it off as hurrying to ring the bells. In the afterlife, Luther is hanging out with Klaus as they eat pizza and watch a Cosmos-like television show.
It takes a minute but eventually, Luther begins to realize they are at some place strange. Klaus then welcomes his bigger brother to being dead as the person the bike passes by.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 10: Luther learns about the afterlife
Over in The Hotel Obsidian, Diego warns everyone against ringing the front desk bell unless they want to lose some appendages. The knife-loving Hargreeves also informs them they are unable to leave through the front door.
The patriarch of both superfamilies speaks up and explains how the hotel “is a test and a trap and a means of salvation, all at once.” But aside from that, Reginald does not share any of his plans with the remaining seven.
Lila has a pregnancy craving so she goes to eat but takes Diego with her before he can spill the news about her being pregnant. Diego explains privately that he is just excited about the baby and thinks this will give their loved ones something to fight for.
Being a good and excited brother, Klaus is helping Luther come to terms with being dead. Luther remembers that Reginald killed him and is an alien, but Klaus has given up caring.
This ticks off Luther who takes out his frustrations by punching his immortal brother since neither can feel pain. While Reginald stands in the middle of the lobby, Viktor talks with Five about not letting the old man trick them again.
Five is confident that their dad could kill any of them without breaking a moral sweat, and what is worse is that he thinks Allison is in on it as well. Speaking of their sister, Allison is sympathizing with Sloane since they both have had their loved ones ripped from them.
She does this by assuring her how much Luther loved her and how better she made him. Five is still going on and starting to make some sense to Viktor but the once shunned brother states Allison will not just come clean about her actions.
So, they will have to be careful.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 10: Divide and conquer
When Luther finally gets his hands on Klaus, he throws his immortal brother around which transports them through folks’ ideas of heaven. They end up at a bouncy house for a child’s party where Luther gets through to Klaus to go back so he can at least save Sloane.
Reginald is still taking notes of the hotel when Allison asks about Luther and Klaus. Reginald deflects and never gives a square answer when Ben walks up.
He tries to take credit for bringing them to The Hotel Oblivion, but dear old dad dismisses him and calls Ben “Number Two.” The Hargreeves patriarch is ready to share his plan and how the seven bells are a metaphor for the sigil that Pogo showed Five in episode six.
When asked about what they need to do with the sigil, Reginald does not have an answer for that creating some more distrust within the group. The plan he has so far is to split up into groups so they can cover more ground.
Viktor, Five, and Allison are one, Ben and Sloane are another, with Diego and Lila being the last one. Reginald was supposed to go with the Sparrow duo but feigns forgetting his journal to be alone.
In the first room they go to on the 3rd floor, Five immediately confronts Allison about seeing her with Reginald during the wedding. Allison defensively deflects these accusations before storming out of the room with Viktor chasing her down the hallway.
When Five tries to follow his siblings, however, the hotel has changed. Now, there are two dead ends on either side of the hallway which means Five is locked and trapped away from everyone.
Up on the 6th floor, Diego comforts Lila who is freaking out about her being a good enough mum for their child. Diego crushes it during this anxious period before they keep exploring the floor but end up walking in a circle.
They wind up experiencing the same thing Five did with the hotel changing. On the 5th floor, Sloane is looking for the sigil but Ben is being a pessimist because dad hurt his feelings.
Sloane calls him out again for being obsessed with Reginald even though he was never a good father. This is when Five finds them and explains how the hotel might be alive.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 10: The bell is rung
Looking for their smaller brother, Viktor tries to mend things over with Allison but does not think that will ever be possible. While he is standing over the bell, Reginald is greeted by Klaus who is mad for killing Luther and for using him.
The old man eventually knocks Klaus unconscious because everyone is in position and it is time to ring the bell.
The Hotel Oblivion becomes covered in yellow light as a gong rings through the halls. At this point, each of the groups is attacked by a Japanese-style guardian.
Allison gets a slice on the arm before she and Viktor escape, Diego and Lila use knives to slow down their enemy before that does not work, and finally, Sloane and Five take out their guardian with Ben watching on. Viktor takes Allison to the hotel’s communal bathroom before they are separated and run through different doors.
On the other side of the doors, Allison is now in the 9th-floor bathroom while Viktor is on the 4th. Diego and Lila are walking through the 4th floor now where Diego admits he has come to terms with Lila not wanting to sit this fight out.
As a result, Diego locks his beloved in a utility closet so she will be safe with the baby. In the laundry room, Ben, Five, and Sloane are fighting their guardian with little success.
Five and Sloane make one last misdirection play but are failing until Ben acts selflessly and risks his hide for the group. This gives Five enough time to lodge the axe in the guardian’s back, killing him.
When Viktor walks past the utility closet, Lila can break free from her prison just in time for the guardian to find the two. They both use Viktor’s powers to easily kill their guardian.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 10: Klaus shares the truth
Everyone returns to the lobby after escaping or killing their respective guardians to find Klaus gaining consciousness so he can share the truth about his and Luther’s murders. The group confronts Reginald with the truth when Five finally notices what his dad was looking at.
Five goes up to the lounge and looks over the lobby to see the design on the floor has seven stars in the same spots as the sigil. Before he can announce this, the last guardian breaks through the ceiling, slices Five’s left arm off, like his 100-year-old self, and attacks the group.
After the rest of his family is knocked down, Diego has the best chance one-on-one, but even he is no match for this guardian. Sloane is the last one standing and she holds off this beast as long as she can before her powers give out.
Klaus brings Luther back to throw the guardian away with some bugs crawling out of it. Luther finally has the motivation and courage to confront his father about all the horrible things he did to him and his siblings.
But Klaus momentarily dies just as he expresses his love to Sloane. As the guardian starts stirring again, Five announces where the sigil is so Reginald commands everyone to stand on the stars.
There is one left, but Reginald does not have Allison step on it, rather giving it to Five.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 10: Reginald’s plan comes to light
When Five steps on the final star, they are surrounded by a cylinder a blast of lightning shoots the last guardian. This also reveals that the guardian was a hive of bugs which explains why there were so many crawling around when Lila and Diego were first here.
All the people on the stars are stuck in position as a command module opens up. Allison asks what is going on allowing Reginald to explain that the hotel was a facade.
The particles inside her siblings are powering this machine so that he can fix time and space. These are the same particles that Viktor passed to Harlan in 1963 along with the same particles a young Reginald unleashed at an unknown point and on an unknown planet in the opening scene of the season 1 finale.
Pleading, begging, and her upgraded powers are all not enough for Allison to stop Reginald from going through with this. She finally stops Reginald when she slices half of his head off, revealing his alien-like skull.
The seven of them are no longer being drained of their energy but a blinking red button is on the console where Reginald was just standing at. After Viktor threatens to use his powers, Allison has her brother trust her as she presses the button.
Audiences then witness Allison returning to her home in Los Angeles where her beautiful Claire is waiting for her along with her husband Ray. They are now both in the same time period with each other.
The Umbrella Academy season 3 episode 10: What happens now?
Viktor, Five, Diego, Lila, Ben, and Klaus all ride an elevator up to the roof where they find a bust of Reginald, celebrating his accomplishments. Everyone is confused which only gets more intense when an alive and normal-looking Luther arrives.
While he is happy to be alive, the only thing he wants is his wife.
He tries to get answers out of Five but he does not have any. Five tries to escape Luther’s grip by blinking away but he does not have his power.
It turns out everybody lost their powers, likely when the particles were taken out of them. The episode ends with everyone going their separate ways within this new world.
As they do this, the camera pans the city to find Hargreeves Enterprises has dominated the city’s economy. This domination is so strong that Reginald has a skyscraper with his name plastered on the side.
With him in this ivory tower metaphor is his beloved Abigail. A mid-credits scene shows a very similar Korean train from the first episode this season, with a new new Ben riding it, alluding to possible doppelgangers during season 4.
