The first of many The Walking Dead spin-offs will be arriving later this month. Standing out from future spinoffs Tales of The Walking Dead will focus on characters we haven’t seen (as far as we know), outside of Alpha and Lydia pre-Whisperer era.

The official trailer launched during San Diego Comic-Con quickly provided glances at several characters and how they handle the beginning of the apocalypse. Some don’t believe the rumors of the attacks; others aren’t taking any chances.

Some characters seem to be in places we’ve seen before on The Walking Dead and others seem to somehow contribute to the stories we already know. For context, we see what may look like Terminus for a brief second (now that was an unforgettable way to open a new season) and a character carrying a goat which reminds us oddly of Tabitha, once owned by Eastman.

Coincidence or not? The cast of this spin-off include Terry Crews, Jillian Bell, Jessie Usher, Poppy Liu and Olivia Munn.

Due to arrive on AMC and AMC+ August 14, we can’t help but feel like there is one glaring issue. What’s troubling about Tales of The Walking Dead is that because we haven’t seen a majority of these characters before, do we automatically assume they don’t survive?

If they don’t, what kind of impact have they made? If they don’t meet either mark, will audiences make a connection with them for such a short period of time?

On one hand it’s hard to assume they’ll survive when we know so many people don’t. We’ve seen this since season 1 of The Walking Dead.

It is the harsh reality of the series. At the same time, these characters might be some of the lucky ones who survive and wind up in places or with others that the series just hasn’t had the time to cover.
