Does Fester Addams appear in the upcoming Netflix series Wednesday?
The Wednesday official teaser has gained over 4 million views since August 17, providing a glimpse into the series coming to Netflix in the Fall. Wednesday seems to focus on the eldest Addams child, as she seeks revenge against school bullies in rather brutal ways before ending up at Nevermore Academy.
The official teaser does the character justice, reminding us fondly of Christina Ricci’s portrayal in the ’90s The Addams Family films. She’s quiet, quick-witted, twisted, and, even if she doesn’t intend to be, quite funny.
While the trailer mostly focuses on her, we do see glimpses of other characters including her devoted parents Gomez and Morticia Addams, and the dismembered hand, Thing. We hear mentions of her brother, Pugsley, but that seems to be all we hear or see of the Addams family.
This leaves us, and we’re sure plenty of viewers wondering, where’s Uncle Fester? Will Uncle Fester make an appearance?
Will Uncle Fester appear in Netflix’s Wednesday?
Will this follow the ’90s films in which he’s missing and hasn’t found the family yet? Does he simply not exist?
For those unaware, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values were two films released in 1991 and 1993 that starred the impeccable talents of previously mentioned Christina Ricci, Raul Julia, Anjelica Huston, Christopher Llyod, Dan Hedaya, Jimmy Workman, Dana Ivey, and Joan Cusack. Both films focused heavily on Llyod’s Uncle Fester, the bald headed, wide eyed, true oddball of the family.
The first film’s plot revolved around his return to the family after he had been missing for years while the second had him unknowingly marry a black widow (Cusack) seeking the Addams fortune. In fact, the first film had Hedaya and Elizabeth Wilson’s characters wanting the same fortune.
Regardless, Uncle Fester became the popular and fun uncle with Wednesday and Pugsley while also being loyal to his brother Gomez. So then why is he absent in the Wednesday trailer?
We checked IMDb but unfortunately, he could not be found in the cast listing. We did find Pugsley and the family butler Lurch.
Could it be that the intent is to hope that Wednesday gets renewed for season 2 and then Uncle Fester will join the cast? We’re hoping to see the crazed uncle at some point and look forward to hearing who will be playing the unforgettable role.
