In exactly one month The Walking Dead will air its last season premiere on AMC. In a move that hasn’t been done before, season 11 was decidedly split into three parts.

Let’s briefly cover Parts 1 and 2 before discussing Part 3.

Part 1

Part 1 unwillingly forced Negan and Maggie to work together as they and several others needed to find supplies for Alexandria. At this point, Alexandria has seen far better days.

The community which thrived for several years as the home for our heroes is in dire need of help. While Maggie was away, she had been a part of a group living in Meridian until The Reapers arrived.

The Reapers turned out to be ex-military and mercenaries. With extremely deadly skills they killed and stole Meridian.

This practical suicide mission to retrieve the supplies costs the lives of several of Maggie’s community members and Alexandria’s Alden. In the end, with very few survivors left, The Reapers are all killed except for Leah, Daryl’s old flame.

Negan makes the choice to not return to Alexandria for fear that Maggie will one day kill him. In the meantime, Eugene had made contact with a woman named Stephanie on the radio.

She informed him that her community could help Alexandria. Therefore, he and few others make the trip and meet The Princess along the way.

They are captured and put through a grueling interview process before all of them are welcomed to The Commonwealth. But not everyone there is as kind and helpful as they seem.

Part 2

By Part 2 The Commonwealth is aware of Alexandria’s location thanks to Eugene. He also meets the real Stephanie after discovering the other was an actual fake.

After a rather warm welcome and introduction by Commonwealth soldiers and Lance Hornsby, the group splits up. Some remain in Alexandria; others move into The Commonwealth and the few remaining reside at The Hilltop.

The plan was that Alexandria would be fixed with help from The Commonwealth, which meant no one was forced to stay at The Commonwealth. One of the many problems is that many of our heroes got accustomed to living in the thriving, large community even if it had glaring issues.

Another problem was that the leader of The Commonwealth, Governor Pamela Milton did not agree with sending resources to repair Alexandria. This puts Lance in a tough position as he needs not only Aaron’s approval to join The Commonwealth but Oceanside and The Hilltop as well.

Maggie, who leads The Hilltop has no interest and becomes Lance’s target. Everything comes to ahead when Aaron and Gabriel are sent to recruit survivors as ordered by Lance.

The survivors living in Riverbend, which include Negan and his pregnant wife Annie become targets. Lance obtains Leah’s help, but she fails to kill Maggie and is in turn killed by Daryl.

Lance’s true plan comes to light when The Commonwealth seizes control of Alexandria and Oceanside leaving The Hilltop to burn.

Part 3

We now arrive to Part 3 where The Commonwealth is full of both allies and traitors, on the brink of collapse. This all due to Milton’s son Sebastian’s sketchy dealings and the citizens being understandably unhappy with their lives being dictated by their pasts before the apocalypse.

Daryl and Rosita faced this firsthand as they were training to be Commonwealth soldiers. Once they were, their living situations improved dramatically.

Add to all this Milton probably isn’t aware of Lance’s plans. Maggie, Negan, Daryl, Aaron, Lydia, Elijah, and Father Gabriel will all be wanted criminals with no place to go.

This leaves Eugene, Rosita, Judith, RJ, The Princess, Ezekiel, Carol, Kelly, Connie, Jerry and Magna at The Commonwealth about to deal with the incoming fallout. Thankfully they will have the likes of Mercer and the soldiers loyal to him on their side.

But how will this all end? Who will live and who won’t be as lucky?

After The Walking Dead concludes, the spinoffs will come into play. So far AMC has announced the unnamed Daryl Dixon spinoff, The Walking Dead: Dead City, and the unnamed Rick and Michonne spinoff.

Regardless of how the story continues into these smaller shows, the very heart and embodiment of The Walking Dead will be over. For fans like myself, this is jarring, yet we can’t help but feel sentimental.

The series has been a huge part of many lives as it often inspiring others, creating friendships and became something bigger than anyone expected. It was always more than just a zombie show.

It always will be more. We can’t help but thank AMC for bringing the comics to life and changing the entire realm of television forever.
