The 50th Saturn Awards did not disappoint when it came to both award nominations and winners, especially for AMC’s The Walking Dead. The award ceremony often recognizes the talents and superb skills displayed in movies and television that other award ceremonies often neglect.

This year the walker (zombie) apocalypse series based on the comic books written by Robert Kirkman, obtained four Saturn Award nominations. Of the four, the series took home two wins for Best Horror Television Series: Network/Cable and Best Supporting Actress in a Network/Cable Series.

While it was a close call to give the award to either Lauren Cohan or Melissa McBride, it is Cohan who took home the coveted trophy. Cohan’s character, Maggie Rhee (previously Greene) has been on The Walking Dead since season 2 when the original group discovers Hershel’s (Maggie’s father) farm.

Since then, she had become a core character, even after her brief departure and return. She fought walkers, fell in love and married Glenn, became a powerful widow and mother after Glenn’s death, leader of The Hilltop and leader of her group of people at Meridian.

Which Saturn award did The Walking Dead’s Lauren Cohan win?

Her relationship, which really isn’t the right word for it, with Negan (the man responsible for Glenn’s death) remains unpredictable. One moment she hates him, the next she sees past the man he once was and learns to accept his help.

She will, whether against her will or not, be teaming up, or searching for Negan in next year’s TWDU (The Walking Dead Universe) spinoff The Walking Dead: Dead City. Filming has recently wrapped in New Jersey, leaving many wondering why and how this spinoff plays a role in the ever-growing TWDU.

We congratulate all of this year’s winners and hope that we’ll see more The Walking Dead nominations next year as the spinoffs air. You can view the full list of the 50th Saturn Awards winners from Collider.
